As we approach the end of the year many of us are looking for Christmas presents for loved ones or even ourselves! There are a growing number of people aware of the benefits and pros of traditional shaving, but for many of you reading this it is your first exposure. Perhaps your significant other has requested some traditional shaving products for their Christmas gift, or you are searching to surprise them. There are two main reason why one should consider trying or giving the gift of traditional shaving: cost and effectiveness.
During a recent trip to the local mega-mart I took some notes on the current prices of razor replacement cartridges to do a comparison. The average price for a pack of 4 was US $15.14/ EU €12.32/ GBP £9.72. Assuming that one will shave every day and use one cartridge a week, we can deduce that the yearly cost will be approximately US $181.61/ EU €147.84/ GBP £116.64. We’re talking just blade cost here not to mention creams and aftershaves. That’s a lot of money no matter how you slice it. Contrast that with double edge razor blades that cost only an average of US $17/GBP £10.91 /EU €13.83 per year. That is a massive difference folks and the comparisons are just as striking when you compare creams and aftershaves.
That’s all well and good you say, but cheaper often means a drop in quality is this so with traditional shaving? There are myriads of men, and women all over the internet that will tell you just the opposite. Check any traditional shaving forum, social media outlet, or even major E-tail website product reviews and phrases like “best shaves of my life”, “fixed my skin issues”, “never had a shave this great” are extremely common.

Double edge shaving is a cheaper alternative to modern day cartridges
If you or your loved one are environmentally conscious, traditional shaving is a wonderful way to help the planet as well. A well kept razor and brush will last a lifetime. Spent blades can be saved and recycled! Creams and soaps are minimally processed containing only special blends of saponified fats and oils. They also contain little to no petro-chemicals as opposed to their mass produced canned cousins. Their containers can be recycled or re-purposed also.
For those looking to improve their own selves in the coming year or to those looking give the gift of improved health, cost, and a low environmental impact you may look no further than traditional shaving. Your pocketbook, skin, and our Earth will thank you! (and just imagine with all the money you’ll save you can buy yourself some as well!)
