A Shaving Shack razor has been named the best on the market in a recent top ten round up.
The article, by grooming writer Simon Billington, appeared in The Independent early last week, crowning the Muhle R89 as king of the double edges.
The razor (pictured above) beat off stiff competition from the likes of pricier options, such as the Goodfella Open Comb (£60.00) and the Jack Black Double Edge (£125.00), which both came highly commended but were ultimately deemed no match for the mighty Muhle.
The Muhle R89 comes with an affordable price tag of just £25.99, leaving Billington convinced he had found the option providing the most bang for his buck.
“Precise German grooming engineering sees a beautiful corrosion-resistant, chrome-clad razor with perfect weight distribution and a forgiving cut for wet shave newbies.
“We were treated to faultless performance every time, which had us relegating rivals.”
The Merkur 33C also fared well in the round-up, with Billington deeming it top choice for anyone new on the wet shaving scene.
“Here’s one for safety razor newcomers. From a brand known for quality, you get a diminutive dynamo, perfect for manoeuvrability around the face”, he said.
“Those with larger hands may struggle with its small stature, but its lighter weight is ideal for beginners.”
His choice will come as no surprise for many, with the brand widely renowned for its quality shaving hardware and great value for money when compared with other similar razors.
Anyone au fait with the wet shaving market will remember the model’s legendary ‘brother’, the Merkur 34C Heavy Duty, which was named ‘World’s Best Razor’ in the 2011 About.com Reader’s Choice Awards 2011. The 33C uses the same technology as its heavier-weight counterpart, but boasts a slightly narrower handle, which explains its feather light feel in the hands.
The razor wasn’t the only one to fly the flag for the brand, with the Merkur 37C Slant Bar also making the cut. Not one for the feint-hearted, the razor is designed for the more experienced shaver, facilitating an extremely close shave in capable hands.
It didn’t end there for The Shaving Shack, either, with a number of other in-stock razors making their way comfortably into the ten best.
The Edwin Jagger 3D Laser Diamond (DE3D14), Parker 99R and Merkur Futur Adjustable all received praise, with the three of them deemed great choices for the more seasoned shaver.
