Aaron is asked a question about the merits of palm stropping a double edge razor blade
George Dyson, from the UK, asks:
“When I first started shaving in the mid 60s I was advised to ‘strop’ the double edged razor blades on the palm of my hand, this was supposed to smooth the microscopic faults on the blade which caused the nicking of the skin. Is this a fallacy? I have used modern razors for many years but am going back to double edged blades. Thanks George.”

AARON SAYS
“Mr. Dyson,
I do not believe this to be a fallacy at all. There are many folks out there who palm strop their blades to smooth out the roughness of a new blades and remove the micro-burrs from manufacturing. I myself have done it upon occasion when one of my normal blades feels rougher than normal out of the package. Where I believe the falsehood comes in is when folks start palm stropping to extend blade life. However, that’s another topic all together! Welcome back to double edged shaving!
Keep it smooth,
Aaron“
