Aaron is asked a question about the best double edge razor blades & the differences between the various brands
Luke Cressey, from the UK, asks
“Hello, with so many double edge blades on the market, is there a way a novice to double edge shaving can tell the difference between them? The ones I’ve looked at seem to be stainless steel with some kind of coating on them and some different brands seem to have the same specs (i.e. stainless with say PTFE coating or similar). But they are differently priced, is the more expensive blade always the best? Thank you for your help.”
AARON SAYS
“Mr. Cressey,
You have happened upon the most subjective part of wet-shaving: blades. A blade that one person may love and works well for them may be the worst blade for other folks. For me personally, Feather Blades and Lord Platinum blades are the best, but a lot of people rave over others. Most blades with a PTFE (teflon) coating are considered smoother shaving because of that coating. However, that does not necessarily equate to sharp.
Some of the sharpest blades on the market are the Feather brand blades, however most folks find they are harsh and not as smooth as others. Blades are truly a point where as they say, “Your Mileage May Vary”. Your best bet in finding the best blade for you is to purchase a blade sampler pack and try them all. This is by far the best way to find the best blade for your face. Best of luck!
Smooth Shaving,
Aaron”
