Men’s hair: How to add volume and lift to flat, lifeless hair

There is nothing worse than a flat, limp and totally lacklustre mop of hair, and it’s a problem that many men battle against on a daily basis.

Overloading thin or receding hair with heavy styling products might seem like the way to go to add a bit of oomph, but we’re willing to bet that you’ve had little success – not to mention heavy, greasy hair by the end of the day! Luckily, however, there is a solution – follow these five steps, and you’ll have voluminous hair in no time at all.

1. Keep hair clean- and use a thickening or volumising shampoo and conditioner
Washing your hair regularly is crucial for voluminous hair, as dirt, grease and debris can weigh it down, leaving it looking lifeless.

For best results, opt for a thickening shampoo and conditioner – but be careful to use the conditioner sparingly and avoid the roots. While many men choose to avoid this step for fear of leaving their hair even limper, conditioning it will ensure that it is kept in optimal condition and will be more receptive to any tactics you employ to add that extra body. That said, you’ll only need to do this around once a week, and if your hair is particularly thin the n you will only need a tiny amount.

The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste (100ml)

Adding a small amount of product like The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste can help to add volume to flat, lifeless hair

2. Rinse with warm water (not hot!)
Avoid rinsing your hair with very hot water, as this can damage the follicles and exacerbate the appearance of thinning hair further. Instead, use warm water, making sure to remove all traces of product from the hair.

3. Apply your product to hair when wet
Working a small amount through freshly washed hair after blotting with a towel will give you a stronger level of old once sealed in with the hair dryer. You’ll only need a minimal amount though, and can add a little more once hair is dry.

4. Make use of your hairdryer
Rather than leaving hair to dry naturally, grab a hair dryer and a round brush and build in some extra body. Take hair in 1-2 inch sections and blast with the dryer, using a nozzle

5. Style with your fingers – and try a volumising powder to finish
Once hair is dry, you might want to try out a root-boosting powder – just sprinkle in sparingly and massage in add another small amount of hair product – we like The Bluebeards Revenge Matt Paste, but remember that less is always more. Run through hair with fingers, using hands to create your shape.
