Take yourself back to the great Victorian Era and shave in ultimate luxury!

Truefitt and Hills's most popular fragrance is a light, fresh, oceanic scent with top notes of Bergamot and Cardamom, a heart of Clary Sage, Nutmeg and Lavender, and a base of Sandalwood and Cedar. While the name celebrates our illustrious history, this signature scent is unmistakably modern.

The inspiration for this exciting blend was derived from an original formulation dating back to late 1850s, when Truefitts offered a service of making up exclusive fragrances for various Regiments, prominent institutions as well as other persons of eminent status. The resultant fragrances had names evoking glorious British past of Victoria's Reign and amongst them one would find rich fougeres such as "The Choice of the Rifle Brigade", "The Favourite of the Royal Artillery", "Jockey Club Bouquet", "The Royal London Yacht Club Bouquet" or "Knickerbocker Nosegay" as well as delicately fragranced "Palmerston Bouquet" especially blended for Viscount Palmerston, one of Queen Victoria's Prime Ministers. This blend was to inspire Truefitts’ modern fragrance 1805. The recipe for “Palmerston Bouquet” lay unused for over a century and only in 1998 was brought back to be reformulated and reorchestrated. 1805 was finally launched in 1999, a fragrance commemorating the year in which William Francis Truefitt opened its salon doors for the first time and thus established a business that was successfully to carry on for the next two centuries. 1805's original formulation may have well been blended by skilful hands of founder’s grandson, Henry Truefitt, however its successful reorchestration is now responsible for its unmistakably modern signature scent and its undoubted popularity.

When activated with water, Truefitt & Hill’s glycerin based shaving creams produce a rich, creamy lather, preparing the skin for a truly close shave. These traditional style creams may be applied with or without a badger hair shaving brush and are particularly well suited for a gentleman who prefers to carry his selected fragrance throughout the entire grooming process.

Truefitt & Hill celebrated 200 years of operation in 2005. They maintain the world’s oldest barbershop and are barbers and Royal Warrant holders to H.R.H., The Duke of Edinburgh. They are considered to be one of the foremost authorities on shaving and men’s grooming. This truly is a product for the discerning shaver who appreciates quality.

The Shaving Shack verified purchase.
It is incredible really. One spent much time in the shaving doldrums that I began to think that there was no such thing as an exquisite shave. Oh, Truefitt & Hill, you have completely dispelled that myth. The enticing aromas of 1805 are simply divine. A review I read likened it to the era where men were men and honour was paramount, and I have to say, it was not wrong. The scent is unmistakably classy, befitting of an honourable gentleman. The cream is luxurious, and the experience decadent down to the last detail. I do not think it is possible to get a cream that gives a better shave experience. I firmly believe that this is the pinnacle of shave creams, and I'd take a pistol duel at 20 paces with anyone who thinks otherwise.

Traditional shaving at it's best! This cream smells great (my favourite from the T&H; range so far), and you only need a small amount to produce lots of thick lather. It makes shaving a pleasure, as it should be. I've also found that the empty container is great as a travel shaving bowl...

You get a great lather from this cream and the scent is amazing. You get a really close shave with it and in the six months I've been using it, I've had no razor burn whatsoever.

T & H products are classic and everyone should give them a try.

This is my first cream of Truefitt & Hill, as I am a newbie to the classic shaving.

I must say it's a fantastic cream, with a fragance difficult to define but that takes me to these nineteenth-century barber shops where there was no rush, the smell of old wood, leather, you could smoke and find people whose word was a signed contract.

Maybe it's a pity that all this has gone, or maybe not, fortunately Truefitt & Hill continues to manufacture soaps and creams.

My wife purchaced this cream along with a Merker razor and after only 1 shave i am now ordering the T&H shave oil.Amazing products thankyou

An excellent cream with a familiar light, fluffy texture before it is mixed which seems to be a feature of all top creams. It whips up with no effort and the typical walnut amount gives me 3 good passes. It comes in a nice, solid tub too.

The 1805 scent is hard to describe. It is masculine but not spice or herbal. This cream perfectly resembles the scent of the 1805 cologne and is almost overpowering so not one for people who prefer natural, subtle scented creams.

Smells good and is easy to make a smooth, creamy and protective lather from. A lovely way to start the day, and you can follow it up with a matching aftershve, too.
