Review: Having lived in France and Italy for many years I am well aware of this product. What can say that has not been already said? It is an excellent product that will make your skin feels smooth and soft as a baby's skin.
Much better to use as a pre-shave as it is a bit thick for me and tends to melt on the skin as a post-shave, especially in summer. The smell of menthol is not apparent after shaving and using an after-shave balm.
This product is truly great for the price, you won't find anything better. It makes me feel like Casanova which is a great accomplishment!

Product: Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream (100ml)
Review: As I'm new to safety razor shaving (always used Mach 3 razor with whatever shaving gel/foam was on offer) i didn't know which cream, soap etc to use when I purchased my new merkur 34c classic. So I looked at reviews, best sellers etc and decided to by proraso shave soap and the pre/post shave cream. As I suffer from ingrown hairs (well I did until I started shaving with a DE safety razor and a good brush) then I was advised to put shaving oil on before gel/foam to work as a base layer. I always used a cheap oil from supermarkets but when buying my razor and brush from shaving shack I thought I'd go all out and buy the works. I'm glad I did as this cream is brilliant! It feels like all my pores open up when I massage it on and the razor glides over my face. You can still feel the menthol buzz on your face for a while after yous shave and if you wish you can use it as an after shave cream aswell which I tried. It is good as an after shave cream but I prefer it as a pre shave cream.
Can't wait for my next shave!

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: As it has always been necessary for me to shave because of my work (being in the forces then as a firefighter) I dreaded shaving everyday and making the rash on my neck more noticeable and irritated with every shave. I couldn't wait for a couple if days of to let my face heal. I've looked into causes and cures many times and found that I suffer from ingrown hairs which get really bad especially around my neck. I had tried power shave and ingrow go which can sting and only sometimes work.
I read about safety razors, using badger hair brushes and a good pre shave cream and shave soap so thought "why not give it a try" as I've tried everything else. I purchased the merkur 34c from shaving shack along with a brush and some shave cream and soap (I went with proraso for both as it was a good price and had good reviews) and I couldn't be happier with my purchase!!
I've only been shaving like this (old skool) for a week and notice the difference already!! My neck has improved....a lot!! And it's great being able to put on a soothing after shave balm instead of some ingrown hair solution that stings and irritates my face!!
I never comment on purchases (this is my 1st time) but I think I've found a cure for my dread of shaving, I'm actually looking forward to my next shave as its an enjoyable experience now.
The razor felt and looked like a good quality, heavy, classic old skool razor and would recommend it to a newbie to safety razor shavers like myself

Review: Brought the set as, as it says, a starter kit. It came with the essentials you would need. In hindsight i would of brought everything individually and maybe got better quality, saying that the shaving cream i found to be very good, gave a real nice shave, not sure about it reducing hair growth but who knows. The post shave balm i found to be very watery and didnt feel to mousturise my skin, the brush was ok to use, lathered up and applied pretty well and the deodorant smells very nice but is a roll-on. So overall i would say mayb spend abit more and buy indivdually.

Product: Muhle R41 Grande Long Handle Double Edged Chrome Safety Razor (Open Comb)
Review: Everyone knows that Chuck Norris is the toughest man ever and if he was to shave using a DE Razor then this is the one he would use!
I read numerous reviews on this razor and the majority highlighted the aggressive shave the R41 provided; they were not wrong! The first 'With The Grain' shave on the side of the face provided a pure 'rasping' noise that I have never experienced with any of my razor collection and I immediately thought "Wow this is a razor that you need to be careful with". I wasn't incorrect as, even with practically zero pressure applied, I was achieving an extremely close shave. I also own a Merkur 37C Slant Bar and I thought that was a razor to feared. However, the 37C is a lightweight in aggressive shaving compared to the R41. Treat it with utter respect and it will provide you with a ridiculously close shave, but your shave preparation and taking your time in using this tool is absolutely essential, otherwise 2 words will be relevant - blood bath! Certainly for me, then I'm unsure if it could it be used as a daily razor as it is anything but a mild shave. However, it is the razor that I'm going to use whenever I need an ultra, ultra, ultra close shave and I have the time to use this weapon.
Without doubt, an instrument that should be both feared and respected, but when you do it will provide an exceptional shave that you will cherish. Get an R41 and you will experience a build quality, shave and experience that is a shear revelation - just remember to respect it, as when you do it will reward you with a shave that you will love.
Review: This is the first DE razor I have ever bought and I must say I am impressed with the standard of workmanship and finish on the product. The weight distribution feels good and there is a great grip on the handle - this is a solid piece of German engineering!! In use the razor provided a comfortable shave and no significant problems with nicks or cuts. Overall I am very satisfied with this razor and recommend it to anyone who is unsure what model to buy.

Review: Derby Extra are a great blade for those of us with lighter beard growth - either younger guys starting to shave or those of us who only need to shave every other day. They give a smooth and mild shave and are more tolerant of mistakes or inexperience than more aggressive blades. They would also suit folks with sensitive skin.
If you are looking for a slightly sharper blade to deal with a heavier beard you could look at going up to the Merkur, Israeli or Wilkinson but if you need a lighter blade then the Derby will give excellent results.

Product: Proraso Shaving Cream Jar (150ml)
Review: I know it has been said before but the Proraso Shaving Cream in the tub really does pair well with the Proraso Pre and Post Shaving Cream.
It is so easy to apply a little of the Pre and Post cream while your brush is soaking. A tiny amount really does go a long way so go easy on it.
While the Pre and Post does its work on your skin and beard area (the menthol kick is amazing) you can work up an excellent lather with the Proraso Shaving Cream. The Load/Hydrate method works really well providing you don't mind giving the tub a quick rinse and shake dry afterwards. Even a modest amount of the shaving cream will generate a good firm yet lubricating lather. The lather is quick to rise even with a gentle brush action so you can be confident you will not be over-working the core of your brush.
I used the Proraso Shaving Cream on my first ever DE shave after years of using an electric shaver and a non-foaming shaving cream and despite zero experience at getting a lather in a bowl, the Proraso was more than happy to oblige. I got enough for three passes on my first attempt and the shave was smooth.
After you have cold-water washed and given your face a quick work-over with the alum block, the majority of the menthol is gone, leaving behind a nice clean "barber shop soap" smell. The residual scent is mild and persists for about an hour or so if you don't apply anything over the top of it. Anyone getting close enough to notice the smoothness of your shave will notice the fresh, clean scent and think "Here is a man who has shaved really well and smells nice and clean. Tell me more!"

Product: Kent BK8 Silver Tip Badger Shaving Brush (White)
Review: I was very pleased when I unwrapped my Kent BK8 today. Aside from being very nicely packaged in the tamper-evident red tube, the brush was individually wrapped in a delicate paper twist to help show it was new.
While giving the brush its first conditioning wash prior to the first use, it was very reassuring to see that not a single hair came loose when the brush was soaking. I understand that cheaper brushes come with a warning that the odd hair may shift when you give it an initial wash but with the Kent brush, not a single one came out. The washing water was a little cloudy from what I assume were manufacturing residues but after rinsing, a little glycerin in water and a short soak were all that were needed to leave the brush feeling luxuriously soft and ready to get to work.
I have every confidence that this brush will be with me for many years to come.

Since buying the Merkur I've had a closer shave (even though I'm still trying to decide on which brand of blades to finally go with). The razor itself is easy to hold and control, and certainly appears well built. There's absolutely no plastic in sight - hurrah!
Review: I used my shave points to purchase this in an attempt to try straight shaving. The product itself is excellent. It's well made and the blade fits in snugly. Review: While I agree with most of the reviews on here about the weight, the lack of irritation of this razor when shaving etc, I find it very hard to get a bbs shave on my cheek areas, Whether I have one of those faces that's awkward my cheek area hair must grow in a 360 degrees circle lol, as when I use my Muhle I have no problem in 3 passes, I know all about the different angle you have to shave with this razor but I spend more time going over missed bits than I do actually shaving, I have had five shaves with it and I t I am running out of patience with it, I will give it another week then I think it will have to be sold on.

Review: Got one of these with A shavette starter set, very usefully for starting up its stops the bleeding instantly just stings a little. It has also come in very useful with my DE razor when sampling blades, took a while to get the right blades especially for an awkward part on my neck which I kept nicking slightly. A must have for starting up.
Review: I started with a really cheap unbranded boar brush, lots of bristles fell off the brush and really didn't hold much lather, so I thought I would give this one a try, didn't think it would make much of a difference but I was completely wrong, holds lather very well and hardly any bristles fell out and allot softer. Would highly recommend this for a first brush, avoid the really cheap/unbranded ones from other suppliers as they nearly put me off.
Review: This is my first DE razor, it is great so easy to use, I though I would have problems adjusting from a Gillette mach 3 but no problem at all. I would highly recommend this not only is easy to use but its great quality.
Review: I have just started using this and find it a bit of a challenge trying to get the correct angle when going against the grain for that bbs shave, as I have to take a bit of time doing touch ups after my final pass, however, when used with the feather blades I have not suffered from any bad shaving rash or burn due to its pretty mild shave which is great for my sensitive skin.

The first DE razor I purchased was a cheap model from a local pharmacy. The results were a definite improvement over my fusion razor. However it was only after my first few shaves with the Merkur that I truly understood all the claims made by others about DE shaving.

Product: Gillette 7 O' Clock Double Edged Razor Blades
Review: I tried the Gillette 7o'clock blades alongside Derby, Feather, and an unbranded Israeli blade. They are clearly ahead of the others in terms of being skin friendly and retaining sharpness over 3 days, The worst were Derby (really rough).
Review: Not impressed. I started DE shaving with a Lord Premium about 2 years ago. After being very pleased with the results I decided to try another DE razor and chose the Timor. I do not know if my Timor is faulty but it provides a terrible shave and it is enough to put me off the brand for life. I recently binned it. I ordered a Merkur Futur, here on Shave Shack, and I expect this to be a move in the right direction.

Product: Shaving Shack "Buccaneer" Pure Badger Shaving Brush
Review: It's well worth the money, but then it isn't expensive. I've had mine for 10 months now and it hasn't stopped shedding hair (though I will admit there is still plenty left to shave with). It's a little scratchy and may be uncomfortable for someone with sensitive skin, but it's a good solid starter brush to use for a year or so before upgrading to something a little better.

Product: Kent BK2 Pure Grey Badger Shaving Brush (White)
Review: Such a superb brush - best ive ever owned by far and great value. the red leather(?) case is lovely addition as well.
for performance, one thing i noted was that it didnt have the normal 'funky' smell associated with many other natural badger brushes - another plus for the kent !
the only thing i wish they did was either include the stand or have a 'bundle' special price to include it as you'll want to hang this to protect it - its that nice
no irritation, super-soft but still can feel the beard 'lift' when in use. also holds a lot of lather so doesnt need constant re-loading from pass to pass.
excellent high quality from Kent

Product: The Bluebeards Revenge Washbag
Review: what can i say other than BRILLIANT ! best washbag ever. the mirror is plastic and dont try to clean it with a towel as it can scratch easily.
LOADS of pockets to accommodate just about everything needed for a few weeks away. mine stays hung on the bathroom door hook and keeps everything neat, tidy and ready to hand.
Really nice touch is the mesh pocket as its big enough for shave cream/soap jars and allows you to easily see whats there. Top product !!

Review: Had my first shave with this today - in fact its the first DE shave ever... what i can say is it just screams 'quality' and i managed to get through my first DE shave without any real drama (thanks to much advice on shavingshack and reading the tips section.
I was worried that as a raw beginner, I would be wasting my money and almost bought a much cheaper DE razor on here but im so glad i took the advice and went for the 34C - it was the right choice i think. Now i just need to get another for my travel bag and improve on my technique over the coming months !!

Review: The same as everyone else I also bought this as a first straight razor. Takes a bit of practice, but as i'm bleeding less with each shave must be getting used to it.
Product feels well put together and is great value for money. Any problems have been purely down to operator error.
Review: As a new DE-shaver my lip trembled the first time I used the Feather blades, since I had heard a lot about them.
As everyone else has said, they should be treated with respect and they will serve you well. Just like a sharp japanese knife and sword.
Great blade, and I only need 2 passes with light touch up to get a BBS. With Derbys, I also get a smoot shave but need 3 passes with lots of touch up.

Product: Merkur Futur 761 Adjustable Safety Razor with Chrome Finish
Review: This adjustable razor is part of my regular rotation (9 razors in total). I have to say it is the most formidable of all my razors. I like an aggressive shave and the Futur is very very aggressive on setting 6 (far more so than the slant bar). It gives me what I call a "crunchy" shave - which is to say I can really hear the stubble being cut. Most of my beard is removed on the 1st and 2nd passes. For the third XTG pass I turn it down to 4, but still have to be very careful. This razor gives simply fantastic results - but it is the only razor which has ever given me a serious nick. With a Feather blade loaded it simply slices the top off any small bumps. The only gripe I have is the pop off top which does not seem to be a very robust mechanism to me. I wonder whether it will last as long as my 1960 Fatboy. Overall the Futur is a simple stunning razor, and very easy to clean. I'd recommend this for an experienced shaver due to the aggressiveness on high settings.

Product: Merkur 39C Slant Bar DE Long Handled Safety Razor
Review: This is a lovely razor and now part of my regular rotation. I don't really understand the fearsome reputation it has - handled with reasonable care it gives some of the best shaves. I have used Feather, Astra, Timor, and Super Platinum blades and have had no serious nicks or cuts whatsoever. This morning's shave (with Super Platinum blade on its 4th shave) was beautifully smooth with no irritation. The long barberpole handle gives it a nice weight and makes it easy to handle. For comparison the Merkur Futur on 6 is far far more aggressive than this razor. I would highly recommend this razor to anyone, though perhaps not to an absolute beginner. This is an excellent piece of kit and a great step up once you have the technique down.

Review: The absolute Dogs. Chunky, heavy and hefty, this razor made mincemeat of my rough even after a few days growth. Would 101% recommend to anyone, either novice or experienced DE user.
Review: Brilliant Cream. After using some far inferior gel, I had almost given up on a particular razor (Parker Connaught just out of interest) as I was fed up with nicks' and skin pull. However after switching creams, I can safely say that the fault was not with the razor, but with the gel I was using, as this cream returned me a brilliant smooth, hassle free shave, even at speed.
