I was suprised at how easy it was, I was expecting alot more cuts and the ones I have had are just from me getting used to it. Product: Taylor of Old Bond St Shaving Cream (Lemon & Lime 150g)
Review: I bought this cream as part of starting DE shaving. It lathers up really nice and easy, a good cushioning consistency and the scent is pleasant but doesn't stay for long.
That's all the good I have to say about this cream, something in it doesn't go well with my skin, so even though I get a really close shave I have a burning sensation on my skin for about an hour after using it. At first I assumed it was my beginner technique, after having shaved with Mitchell's Woolfat for a few months with no burning sensation, I tried this one again and the burning was there. I gave the rest to my father (almost an entire tub) and he doesn't get the same burning feeling.
If you have sensitive skin this might not be the cream for you, I'm off to order more creams and soap from the Shaving Shack, the "quest" to find the combination of Soap/Cream/Blade/Razor has only just started.

Review: I was not impressed by the taster one I received with my Bluebeard's revenge cologne. It was a very horrible texture and I was really disappointed.
However, decided to purchase the 100ml anyway...I will never doubt it again. I must have received a dodgy freebee because this cream is amazing. I don't think I have had such a close shave with my straight razor. So smooth and great texture when applying it to my face.
Never again will I use shaving foam from a can.. utter bliss! I am still stroking my smooth face with complete amazement. Thanks Shaving Shack :)
Review: The first time I used these blades it was a little scary, they come with a reputation for being sharp and that is exactly what they are.
I returned to my Gillette adjustable (Slim) DE razor having used Mach3 and Fusion razors for some while with many happy shaves but the rising cost of blades and the inherited Gillette Fat Boy looking at me gave the impetus to start fresh.
I tried a few different makes before coming to these Feather blades which I have now settled on as my blade of choice.
I am thoroughly pleased with my choice and would recommend anyone to try these for themselves.

Review: This brush is brillient. To be honest it's my first brush so have nothing to compare it to but it puts the later on well when face-lathering, it's comfortable and for the price I think it would make a great brush for a beginner like me. I bought it because it had the right compromise between quality, price and size. Buy one but hurry, they run out quickly!
Review: This masterpiece is my second DE razor. First was Merkur 34C. When I got it in my hand I thought - hmmm, looks almost like 34C in head part. Hand of this razor seems to be not so comfortable as Merkur. But! I tried to shave with Derby blade from complect. Wow!!! This razor really more forgivable, than 34C, you can shave faster with same comfort. I started to use r89 in the morning, but Mercur 34C stayed for some evenings and holidays, when I can spend more time for the process of shaving. I think that R89 is great for the persons trying DE razors. Great look, great shave.

Think I will alternate between the two products, but will certainly be sticking with Proraso for pre shave cream. having said that I wouldn't use it as post shave cream though, there are better products out there for that. I've tried a couple of dozen blades and for some reason missed out on these even though they're broadly admired and few people dislike them. I'll continue to try more blades but it looks like I may settle for these as the blades I use every day.

Review: This aftershave lotion is my favourite and I use it almost exclusively after my shaves. The perfect combination of menthol and witch hazel makes sure your face feels cool and irritation-free. Sure, they are not reccommended for a beginner, but I would qualify them as extremely effective as well. I have no problems shaving with a Feather blade and it provides a BBS shave time and time again.

Review: I bought this shaving brush (the first i've ever bought) as it was a good price with good reviews, I was not disappointed. The handle is very comfortable with a nice weight to it and has a decent length, the bristles are solidly packed together and as of yet I have not had any escape!!! they were stiff at first but after a couple of weeks they have softened slightly and feel even better now. I use this brush with the Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap and together they produce a rich creamy lather with very little effort and this brush holds the lather enough for a couple more passes. I know there are some very expensive and better quality brushes out there but for the money (and being new to this style of shaving) you would be hard pressed to find a better brush, thank you shaving shack .

Review: I have been using this shaving soap now for three weeks with the Progress Vulfix 404 Grosvenor Mixed Badger and Boar Bristle Shaving Brush. My previous none safety razor shaving was always accompanied with shaving gel/foam which often left my skin feeling dry, definitely not a problem with the Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap!! It has always produced a very rich and creamy lather with very little effort and which leaves your skin with a soft, fresh, clean feel. This is without doubt the best shaving soap/gel/foam product that I have used and even my wife has noticed how different my skin feels.
The dish that the soap came in is also worth mentioning as it is a solid good looking piece of kit so much so that the wife has allowed it to be out on display in the bathroom!!!! This soap is the only one I will use from now on and is excellent value for money too as the soap will last me about 6 months!!!

Review: The king of double edge adjustable razors and it deserves the title. You have such a great variety of options here to go either lightly or up aggressive where it'll mow down any hair growth. Product: The Bluebeards Revenge "Scimitar" Double Edge Razor
Review: I have been shaving now for nearly 25 years and all of those years I have used disposable razors with the last 10 years using the Gillette Mach range. A mate of mine suggested that I try a more traditional "Man's shave" and after looking at loads of safety razors I decided to buy the Blue Beards Scimitar razor. The delivery was very quick and once unwrapped I wasn't disappointed, the razor oozed quality and had a surprising weight, I couldn't wait to get started. After three weeks of shaving I can honestly say it is a pleasure to shave now and it is something I look forward to (it was always a chore with the Mach Range!!!). It was a bit tricky at first as you need to let the weight of the razor to do the work but you soon get used to it. I also purchased a selection pack of razors which allows you to choose the right blade (I strongly recommend this to anyone who is new to this style of shaving). All in all I am very pleased with my new razor and shaving this way my only regret is not discovering this earlier!!!!
Review: A superb introduction to DE shaving for me with this Timor. It's less aggressive than other brands and I find I can get a close shave with two passes. It's shorter than it looks but I found this not to be a problem. It's also quite weighty and well made. The gun metal finish looks classy.
Very pleased with this product.

Product: DR Harris Arlington Shaving Cream Bowl (150g)
Review: The quality: I guess this applies to all DR Harris creams. It is more of a soft paste texture (mine is anyway) which means it is perfect for hard water as it whips up much easier than more solid creams with little water meaning a thicker, less bubbly lather. Just a tiny amount is enough for 2 passes. As it is softer I prefer to 'get it going' in a bowl and then finish the lather on my face. It sticks in the brush nicely and produces an amazing thick whipped-cream like lather. One of the best.
The scent: This has a sweet almost floral scent, which to my untrained nose I'd describe as violets. DR harris scents are much more subtle that other brands I've tried which I didn't like at first (I like powerful lingering scents) but using this without other overpowering products during your shave allows the wonderful refreshing sweet scent to become prominent. It lingers on your face for a while until you apply some balm.
I'd recommend samples to find your favourite scent but as for the quality of the cream- Light, easily whipped with little water and a thick, lasting lather. Will now keep this in my collection.

Review: Absolutely brilliant razor, very aggressive and not for the faint hearted, I popped in an Astra SP and I actually achieved a bbs in 10 min for the first shave without having to mess about buffing up here and there. It can be a bit harsh on the skin and I've had the odd little rash around the adams apple and under the bottom lip, Would I use it every day? I'll have to see but after seven straight days I can't see me using anything else, even my straight hasn't had a look in. The only criticism I have is the handle can be a bit slippy and the knurling could be a bit better.

Product: Omega Shaving Cream (150g)
Review: The cream is very thick in the tub and has the consistency of cold rice pudding. A very pleasant smell of coconut when initially opened . I took a little product from the tub using finger and spread over badger brush. It does take a little more time to work into a lather, so make sure to use sufficient warm water and adjust accordingly. However, it yields an excellent lather when worked and subtle eucalyptus / menthol is released with water contact. It is more subtle than Proraso eucalyptus. Just over half a thumb nail size of cream gave enough lather in shaving mug for three passes with DE razor. This is an excellent product in terms of lather produced, quality, fragrance and overall shaving experience. I thoroughly recommend you try it. At this price, it is well worth it.

I bought a whole load of Bluebeards stuff as my 1st entry to DE shaving which I have now been using for a couple of months. I have to report everything is great and I am now a total DE convert. Initially I chose this brush because it looked the best IMO of all the Bluebeards brushes plus the fact that included the drip stan which would normally sell for 4.50 on its own.
I was initially suprised that the brush smelled the same as a paint brush (I don't know what I was really expecting if I'm honest) but this smell soon disappeared after a few days use. The brush produces an excellent latter in conjunction with BBR Shaving cream, it lost a few bristles during the 1st couple of days use but I am totally happy with my purchase. Review: Im 64 years of age, and my fav razor was the Gillettte adjustable, but when these new cartrideg razors came out I got rid of it.
Worse thing I ever done.
Just recently I bought a new cartridge razor, but was disgusted with the shave it seemed as no hair came off.
Well that was the last straw I binned the lot.
Bought this razor, as I do have big hands with a selection of blades to try as well.
OMG what a fantastic shave this razor gives I had forgotten what a smooth shave felt like.
I used the Merkur blade that came with it which seems good, but I have many blades to try yet, so will decide what is best then.
The razor is well built, and the chrome finish second to none it does ooze quality.
Heavy head too, but I found that nice as the weight does the shaving, and you dont have to press like with a cartridge job.
The only thing you do have to make sure is that the tick on the head is lined up with the arrow this is so the adjustment works correctly.
I took the razor apart on the first day to inspect how well enginered it was.
Well I need not have bothered as it will last a lifetime.
Trouble is I dont think I will ever get my son to use one"God Knows Why ".
In a a word Brilliant.

Review: My first badger hair brush. I was a bit sceptical upon ordering as it is such a low price compared to other badgers but my negative feelings were all wrong. It's bigger than it looks in the picture and has a nice soft feel (compared to synthetics anyway). The handle is very solid and nice to hold. Water retention in this thing is incredible and it holds enough lather for a few passes (good for 'face latherers'). It had some hair loss at first but it is holding well considering I'm quite rough with it sometimes. I have to squeeze it after a shave to remove the high amount of lather it holds and although it looks a bit beaten after, a quick shake under the tap it's good as new. I will invest in a larger more expensive model but out of curiosity only because I can see this lasting a very long time.

Obviously I have been very careful and taking my time when using this razor and I have only suffered the odd small nick(so did Geofatboy lol) but that is par for the cause when your'e a novice and I would recommend this razor for newbies and seasoned shavers alike. Product: The Bluebeards Revenge Post Shave Balm Sample (20ml)
Review: At the risk of sounding like an outlier, I don't like the branding of Bluebeards Revenge (or the fact there's no apostrophe in 'Bluebeards' come to think of it) so I was reluctant to buy a large tub that would sit on my counter for ages. The branding kind of leads you to think that this will be strongly scented crazily coloured goo but I will have to beg forgiveness for my misconceptions because this simply isn't true. This is a quality product - it has a really nice scent which isn't overpowering and the balm has obviously been designed to be a brand beater. It really does calm after a close shave. I may decant in to a different container but I'll definitely buy more of this in the future.

Product: Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream (100ml)
Review: My first experience with the Proraso pre/post which I used as a post. Wow that stuff is refreshing. I love it. I wouldn't use it as a pre personally because I think it would numb your face a little but I apply it to a wet face after shaving and allow it to air dry and it's uber refreshing. Although it feels so strong, after 20 minutes it has done it's work and the fragrance dulls so you have no worries about applying your farourite aftershave. I've had it less than a week but this will form a core part of my routine for years to come.

Product: Simpsons Chubby Best Badger Brush (CH1)
Review: Oh my god I love this brush! It looks fantastic (obviously) and it just oozes quality from the second you take it out of the box. I followed the tips in S Donnellan's review and it worked well. The brush does indeed have plenty of backbone which is what I was looking for. The tips are soft (as soft as a well used Super Badger brush I have from Taylors) but it feels sturdy - a really nice combination. Yes it's expensive, although Shaving Shack was by a distance the cheapest I found, but it is well worth it - you will love using it every day.

Product: Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap and Ceramic Bowl (120g)
Review: Oh no! I was really looking forward to using this soap after reading the great reviews. It smells good (slightly old fashioned, very soap like, not overpowering, will work with any other fragrance) and the dish looks great in my opinion. I've been using with a Simpsons Chubby 1 brush but I've found that in hard water areas it just won't build up a lather. I'll keep trying to use it and I'll get a decent lather one day even if it kills me. I'm sure this is a great soap for normal water and an amazing soap for soft water. I really want to love this soap but for hard water it may be worth considering one of the other great soaps or creams on this site.

Product: Omega Shaving Cream (150g)
Review: I tried this cream as a (potentially cheaper) alternative to the Taylors of Old Bond Street shave creams. Also being a fan of menthol products, I was attracted by the reviews. Produces a comparable lather and softness to the Taylors product, but I can't really detect the menthol as the other reviews claim (it contains euycaliptus). To me it has more of an almond aroma, which is very pleasant nontheless. 5 stars for price and quality. Will be buying again.
Review: A true marvel of a brush for the money. Perhaps a little scritchy to begin with but not at all in a bad way and once broken is very comfortable on the face. This brush is able to create wondrous amounts of lather whether using creams or soaps and the handle is very comfortable in use with a good weight and substantial feeling. Another British-made triumph and a fantastic brush for anyone new to wet shaving - it may be all the brush you ever need. I will certainly not be parting with mine.
Review: Beautifully made razor with stunning chrome finish. When you hold this razor in your hand for the first time, you are left in no doubt that this is a high quality item and a fabulous addition to any bathroom. The pin stripe within the chrome is very elegant and adds just that little extra grip. It also shaves as good as it looks and given the cost, is absolutely fabulous value for money. Get off the cartridge razor merry-go-round and into real shaving with this stunning piece of British engineering!

Review: Very pleased with this. If you have cut yourself this stuff is an ideal solution. And in fact even if you haven't cut yourself it makes a pleasant alternative to aftershave. A little goes a long way.

Product: Safety Razor Starter Kit (Choice of razors)
Review: I purchased this kit around 3 weeks ago having never used a DE razor before. At first it was a little intimidating and the first shave was a little bit rough. I watched loads of videos and used tips on the site and my second shave was very good. The best thing about the kit is that you get different blades to use. So far I have found that the Israeli blades are best for me.
For people new DE shaving I would recommend this kit. You have the basic items and if you want to change your razor at a later date you don't have to worry about having to buy new kit to go with it. Why did we ever go to cartridge razors?!
Just a quick word on this site too, brilliant service, great rewards points and super quick delivery even though I only went for the 2nd class option it was here within 2 days!
Keep up the good work.

Product: The Bluebeards Revenge Pre Shave Oil (125ml)
Review: A good pre-shave oil. Really protects the skin from burns and nicks. However, as every oil I've tested so far, it has a very oily (sic) consitency and let your face and your razor oily. You're good for a fashwash afterwards !

Product: Proraso Shaving Cream Jar (150ml)
Review: There are better shaving creams out there but for the price this is a great choice. Very soft with a great fresh feeling from the menthol.
Review: Well made piece of kit with a great finish. It has a nice weight to it and the design is both attractive and functional, providing a good grip. It is quite mild and after a few passes it leaves a great shave without being too aggressive.

Product: Omega 49 Professional Pure Bristle Brush
Review: This Omega brush is very good. I didn't know what to expect for the price but having read a few reviews I decided to try it out. It is a large brush and it feels great in the hand. I have tried this brush with a number of different shaving soaps and creams, works really well and is soft on the face. It does smell a bit funky at first but this soon goes after a few uses. I think that this will be a repeat purchase as it is such a nice brush.

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: This is my first proper DE razor and have been using for a while now. I would say the finish is ok though some flaws from machining noticeable. A moderately aggressive razor but weight is nice and is more at the end of the razor than the head. Easy to manoevere due to its compact size. Blade loading is quite easy being a two piece design - unscrew knob at the handle end, lift cap off and invert. Load the blade on the cap, flip over and screw back in. Just be careful to check blade evenness and sometimes putting a finger on top of the cap before tightening can help.
Review: Great razor at a fantastic price. This was my first DE razor and I've just bought another as a gift for my father.
Outstanding quality and very robust - will last a lifetime. Only slight quibble is that the handle has no knurling or grip so can be a touch slippy when wet.

Product: Taylor of Old Bond St Shaving Cream (Avocado 150g)
Review: Excellent shaving cream at a fantastic price. Half the cost of Truefitt and Hill or Trumper's with a very similar level of quality. My personal favourite is the almond one but this avocado is nice and light.
Ideal for those just getting into wet-shaving and a tub will last for months!

Product: Derby Extra Double Edged Razor blades
Review: Absolute bargain, especially if bought in bulk. 100 blades for 10.99 will last you a year at least. Compared that to modern cartridge blades (around 10 for 4 for the newest fangled ones) and you've already recouped the cost of a nice DE razor and badger brush.

Product: Truefitt & Hill Luxury Pre Shave Oil (56g)
Review: I've used this for a few days now and it seems to be pretty good stuff. What I would say is that if you have the time to do a proper shave prep (hot shower, wash face, spend time lathering etc) then it's probably not essential. If like me, however, you often find yourself running a little late in the mornings then this stuff is great for making up for lack of prep time.
Perfect consistency (not thick and gooey like some others) and a lovely citrusy smell.
Fairly expensive for the size of the bottle but you don't need much and with occasional use (2-3 times a week) I foresee it lasting 6 months +.

Review: I have just recently purchased the Merkur Futur 760 Safety Razor, what a revelation, a superb razor first tiem use no nicks. However, I have found it works better with shaving soap, a badger brush and BIC blades at the moment. Also must thank Shaving Shack for an excellent service.

Product: Kent BK4 Silver Tip Badger Shaving Brush (White)
Review: I have purchased brushes in the past, but without any proper research, the brushes i brought were cheap with synthetic bristles and would fall apart after a couple of weeks so i eventually went off shaving brushes.
Having recently discovered DE shaving, i decided to venture into the world of shaving brushes again and settled on the BK4.
I now understand why a proper brush can cost so much, and even though this brush sits in the middle of the price range for shaving brushes, it is still expensive. I have to say, though, that i'm mightily impressed and glad i took the plunge. It lathers my cream very well and is soft on the face whilst doing the job of exfoliating prior to shaving. It feels like it will last a long time - and what's more, i enjoy using it!
It's only a month since i started using it, but i don't think it's shed a single bristle yet - at least i haven't seen any if it has!

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: I just happened to bump into this website recently having decided to research into why i kept suffering from bumps around my neck after shaving. It turns out 1 blade is better than 3!
Anyway, i took the plunge having read the reviews into the Merkur 34C HD and decided that if so many people had given it positive reviews, it must be one of the best out there. Having now used it for a month or so, i can say with full confidence that i will never go back to the expense and pain i suffered from all those years of using Gillette Mach 3 blades. Further more, when my son starts shaving in 12 or so years time, he'll be taught to use a DE razor!
I am completely satisfied with this product and only wish i had come across this razor when i started shaving.

Product: The Bluebeards Revenge Post Shave Balm (100ml)
Review: I received the 20ml sample of the Bluebeards Revenge Post Shave Balm and I was taken by just how good this product is. Recently purchasing post shave balms that were significantly more expensive from the likes of eShave, Zirh, Proraso, Geo F Trumper and Clinique then I feel in a privileged position to state that the Bluebeards Revenge wins hands down on providing a moisturising effect that lasts all day and enhances your shave. I also have a significant number of 'cheaper' post shave balms that include King of Shaves, Nivea and Bayliss and Harding and not one even comes close.
The Bluebeards Revenge provides the icing on the cake to a shave and the only doubt would be the claim of reducing beard growth - it's a step too far in my experience. However, you must, you've got to, you have to try this balm and you will not be disappointed! If in doubt of my review then get the sample pack as a tester and use the tin to throw in your travel wash bag - once tested, then you will be purchasing the full size pot.
Overall, this balm is truly amazing and beats all that the top end skin care product manufacturers can throw at it - just do it as you will not be disappointed!
