Review: Well, what can I say? Like many I have ditched my plasticky, overpriced, poor performing Mach 3 cartridge razor, and I think it's one of the best decisions I have made. After much research into DE razors, I opted for the Merkur 38C 'Barber Pole'. I can honestly say all the praise heaped onto this razor is well founded. A truly amazing first DE shaving experience...my skin felt alive and glowing. With care and NO PRESSURE on the blade I only nicked my neck once. After the extremely satisfying shave, I could run fingers back AND forward over my face and feel no stubble at all...unlike my past Mach 3 sessions. The 38C looks and feels like the high end tool that it is - tactile, weighty and masculine! I know I won't ever need another razor...unless this is stolen by a mate! - in short - one of the best purchases of my life. It isn't often you know that something you have bought will be with you when you're old!

Product: Parker Model 22 "Interceptor" Metal Safety Razor with Gunmetal Finish
Review: I thought I'd try shaving with a DE razor after reading an article in one of the free London papers and I'm so glad I did. I now actually lookforward to it each morning. The Parker razors were recommended in the article as they have the butterfly opening which is great for changing blades. The Model 22 also has deep grooves in the handle as part of the styling which provides very good grip, reassuring for the first shave. The razor is also a nice balanced weight which made the transition to DE shaving a doddle.

Review: I had many reviews about different DE razors and finally decided to go with the 34C. I am new to DE shaving, but wanted to change because i kept getting awful shaving rash and the cost of mach 3 blades were becoming ridiculous. I had my first shave this morning and it was great. I watched the videos on youtube of how to shave properly and so didnt cut myself at all. Its very easy to use and my skin looks and feels so much better.
Also would like to mention the very good service from shaving shack, giving me advice when emailed and a prompt delivery.
I did not realise that there would be such a difference between this and my mach 3, but there was. However, beware of the need for a quality brush and shaving cream to finish the job off properly!

Review: I've just had my first shave with the 23C & have to say I'm absolutely delighted. I found it nice to hold & managed a good close shave. The longer handle makes it much easier to control, very reassuring. So a good shave & something that looks stylish as well!
Review: Not as thick as I'd expect, but it is cream and I'm used to 'foam from a can!' It works up really well with a brush on your face, a tip from an earlier review. It does have an unusual smell (to me anyway), neither particularly unpleasant or pleasant, but different. It leaves my skin feeling good after a shave, and that's the main thing! I don't really have a comparator, so I might try another product next time, but as this is on offer anyway, I would say give this product a go! It defintely does the job.

Review: This is my first purchase of a DE razor, a decision reached for various reasons. One, the sheer cost of blades, for my latest offering from Gilette; two, the idea of going back to basics appeals to me and three, felt worth a go if it can help with shaving rash after having tried so may different options over the last couple of decades! Having read other reviews and general discussion around what's best, I felt slightly apprehensive, about using a DE razor but can honestly say that I have had no problems so far.
The shaving rash has reduced, I have extra cash in my wallet in the longer term, and I'm enjoying it so far.

Review: Bought one of these in place of a styptic pencil. At first, I just used it for nicks etc. However, over time I've come to realise that the antiseptic/cooling qualities far outweigh such limited use. These things are wonderful, such an addition to the act. One thing that isn't mentioned in the product description is that the block is composed of Potassium Alum, not Ammonia Alum, ie it's far less agressive. I find that a cold water wash/rince, wet the block, gently rub block over entire shaved area, allow to dry, dab (not rub) with cold rinsed flannel, pays dividends. Always use before after shave of any kind. So much more than the salts on a stick of the Styptic. Looks like it may well last forever too. Well worth it.

Review: OK, I've spent the last two weeks with this soap whilst also having the Taylor Lavender soap in my bathroom to make comparisons with. Although I love the Taylor's lavender fragrance, this particular scent wins for me as it is stronger and the eucalyptus makes it more interesting for my olfactory senses. I find it very quick to lather and the lather is as good, if not better than the Taylor soap. I wasn't expecting it to be in the same league so was delighted but not surprised as this soap has been hand made specifically for shaving purposes. However, "Shaving Soap" may be a bit of a misnomer as the real bonus is that my other half loves it too, and it's very handy being able to share one bar of soap!

Review: This is my first safety razor and I'm hooked to say the least. Gone are my days of buying ridiculously expensive cartridge razors and hacking away at my face. It does take a little patience to get used to the transition to a double edged razor (Ensuring the angle and pressure are correct) but Combine the Futur with a luxurious soap and half decent brush and you won't regret it! Oh, as a side note, take things slowly, let the weight of the razor cut and above all enjoy!

Review: So, I've worn a full beard for over two decades but I've been to India for a couple of years where you don't wear a full beard because it's not comfortable in the summer heat there.
In India you can get a shave in a good barber shop for about 20p, but in the UK it's about 15!
On returning home I'd brought proper soap and a brush with me, but the only razors I could get in India were either the single edged 'cut-throat' things that take half a razor blade or a ghastly plastic safety razor that wasn't any good at all and threatened to fall to bits at every shave.
My old Gillette (a present in 1966 when I was 13) had long since disapeared and so it was time to either go for something complicated and modern or get a decent safety razor.
I bought the Merkur because I liked the look of the long handle.
It gives an excellent shave, is easy to control and feel good in the hand. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Its solidly built (German of course) easy to handle and gives the closest shave I have ever had. Once you get one of these you know you will never need another razor again, these are built to last a lifetime and no doubt longer.
This is the third razor I have bought from shave shack I also have a Vision and merkur 570 every one is top class

On my old Gillette FatBoy, they work very well and give me a nice smooth shave - for me, they feel better than the new Wilkinson's (as in smoother, I feel less drag as the blade slices through the whiskers).
Duration wise, they usually last me around 4 shaves of 3/4 passes each (of course depending on your beard is, your mileage may vary).

Its basic but the brush fits and its balanced and has the options to screw into the wall etc or stick to the wall with a pad on its back. Fair price for the product and lets you spend your money on other things instead. If you need it functional then its for you.
Review: If you're reading the reviews of razors because you are looking for a better shave and are fed up of the ridiculously expensive cartridge razors out there ( which to be fair never really leave your face smooth) - Then keep reading.
I read about the different types and having never ever used a real blade before loved the look of the futur. When you get it in your hand you will feel why it looks so solid. It's well balanced & from the first equisite rasp along the stubble you realise why making the change is worth it. I took it really easy as it was my first time with it, and set it at level one. The cheek and neck areas i was confident enough to go for it on are totally smooth. There is a learning curve to shaving well with a safety razor and if the futur is anything to go by on its first use then learning is going to be a joy. Changing the blade is fine and i know some people dont like the flip-off top but this is tactile and feels strong so you shouldnt be in any danger of cutting yourself. Its also a great reminder that your using a blade so take care. Its no problem letting the weight of the razor do the work while you check the angle is right. Areas that used to be left still rough are utterly smooth now and i cant wait for the stubble to come back so i can try it again.
Thats the reason i made the change to the futur. I was sick of paying for fancy adverts for sub-standard products. There is a better shave out there gents and its double edged. Spread the word and even if its not the futur you choose get double edged and you wont look back . I can thouroughly recommend this and the delivery service from the shaving shack.

The 34C gives me a really good and close shave, without the expense or numerous razors burns courtesy of Gillette. Mach 3 blades (for me) are blunt on the fourth day, using the 34C with the Israeli blades last ages and ages, in fact I think I change them too regularly as I cannot adjust to their longevity.
My five o'clock shadow now appears around 10pm, there is no way I will be going back to the Mach 3. Just take your time and over a few weeks you will become skilled in the art of shave

Review: If shaving foam in a can is like squirty cream then this stuff is akin to real, organic, Devon clotted cream. It smells so good you probably could eat it on your scone!
Just dab your damp brush into the cream and apply, in a circular motion, to your wet face and it will produce a fantastic, thick, aromatic lather. The blade of your razor will glide over your face leaving it feeling smooth and supple with a subtle smell of sandalwood. I use a Merkur 34C, but using this stuff with any old disposable would enhance a shave.
My only gripe is that you need so little cream on your brush to get a really good lather that I reckon it will take me years to use up the whole tub and I really want to try the other flavours.
Review: Changed to DE shaving this year and will never go back to Mach 3. Thanks to the 570 and Taylors shaving creams, I haven't experience a shave like this ever. Didn't want to break the bank when trying out DE, so the price and the quality of the Merkur 570 are just right. *****

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: My wife bought me the Merkur 34C for my birthday. I was a bit sceptical at first if DE razors are so good, why did they invent the cartridge style ones. As soon as I used my new razor, I realised that my doubts were completely unfounded. After following the wet shaving tips on this website and others I managed to have a comfortable, nick-free very close shave first time round. You really appreciate the weight of the 34C and quality of the craftsmanship when it is in your hand. Using light, short strokes the blade glided across my face. Even the potentially more problematic mouth and neck areas were a breeze to shave. Afterwards my skin felt supple and smooth, and the subtle smell of sandalwood (I used Taylor of Old Bond St Sandalwood shave cream applied with a brush) that emanated from my skin was the icing on the cake.
The best analogy I can think off to using a DE razor is that of pens. You can use a bic to scribble a note on a scrap of paper. Its quick and easy but a bit of a chore and instantly forgettable. Or you could use a beautifully made fountain pen and write with black ink on thick, quality note paper. It might take a bit more skill and it will take more time because you have to be more careful, but the end result will be so much more satisfying and the task itself so much more fun and memorable. It is the same with saving. Using a DE razor does take longer, you do have to be careful and implement some skill but the end result is worth it shaving becomes a joy, not a chore.
Will I ever use a modern cartridge razor again? Probably when I wake up late and need a quick shave before going into work. But for the height of luxurary, maximum pampering, totally indulgent I feel great shave I will always use my Merkur 34C.
Thank you Caroline,
Paul
P.S. The service and delivery from Shavingshack was spot on. Order now and you will not be disappointed.

Product: Parker Model 90R "Knightsbridge" Metal Safety Razor with Nickel Plated Finish
Review: We've recently started stocking these as they get very favourable reviews. Having handled it myself I can say it looks fantastic and performs just as well. It's quite heavy for a Parker which adds to the feel of the razor, making it a worthy addition to your collection.
Review: well i have been using this for a while now...and although its nice to shave with and engineered to a very high standard, for me with clumsy fingers i am finding it awkward to change the blades and adjust the settings...awaiting the stocks of 34c as i have heard so much about it too....but all in all a very nice implement....kiss your triple blades goodbye

Review: The razor looks very nice. The first few shaves are difficult if you have not used this type of razor before, but it is worth persevering because once you have the hang of it the results are good.

Product: 30 Derby Extra Double Edged Razor blades
Review: I've been using these for a couple of weeks now in my Merkur Progress 570 and am delighted to say that they certainly live up to their reputation! In my opinion they are as sharp as our Israeli Made blades but the shave is quite a bit smoother. I can also squeeze an extra one or two days worth of shaving out of them, which makes them extremely good value for money. Overall, very impressed.

Review: Wonderful smelling, lathers up easily using a brush and leaves my face smooth and moisturised with no razor burn.
What more could you want?!!
Review: Superb looking and well made razor. You can feel the quality when you pick it up for the first time. It will pay for itself after a few months with the money you save on blades compared to Mach 3 and the like.
Review: Been using this razor for a couple of weeks now and whist it does need some getting used to coming from a mach 3 and new to DE shaving, it does give a really nice shave, shaving is now a joy rather than a chore thanks to this wonderful razor, only problem is the head is a bit bulky and chunky so i still need to use the mach 3 to style my sideburns

Product: Merkur Vision 2000 Safety Razor with Satin Chrome Finish (Gift Tin and Blades)
Review: Wow What a razor, only had four shaves
and now a converted DE user. First time I used it substained a few knicks however it is an art form using a DE so you have to relearn how to shave something my dad should have shown me. incidently I used to have to shave every day I can now push it to two. So go on be a man again start using a DE, you know you want to. Grrrrrrrr

Product: 100 Israeli Made Double Edged Razor Blades
Review: We're very impressed with these blades here at the Shaving Shack. Being in the lucky position of getting to test drive new products, I loaded my Merkur Progress with one of these last week. These blades really are sharp and smooth and comparable to the Wilkinson Sword, Merkur and various Personna blades I've tried. I am pleased to report no cuts and my test blade lasted me a week / 6 shaves.

Review: Having purchase following the good reviews I found this razor provided a disappointing shave. Notably an unbalance cut. One side of the razor gave a completely different cut to the other. No comparison to a Merker DE. I would not recommend this razor.
Tom's Comment
Sorry to hear about your experience with this razor which turned out to be faulty. This is a rare occurence and we've now exchanged it for a Merkur at your request. This is still one of our most popular and bestelling razors and normally gets very positive reviews from our customers.
