Review: I don't think that I need to add another word, just look how many reviews this razor got!!
I am 22 years old and shaving was like hell, until I've searched the internet and bought this razor with a good badger brush and a descent shaving cream... the results; fascinating, no more red nicks and shaving is just about enjoying my time.
This was the best decision I've ever made, definitely going to recommend it to everyone I know.

Review: I want to keep this review rather short and avoid getting into the "engagement ring" syndrome. You know the score, love the first ring you see then spend three weeks trying to find a better one.
When you find something that completely suits you why run around road-testing the entire market?
The Shack's Israeli blades are very good but the (Turkish made) Derby blades are just a cut above; sorry but the pun was intended.
No cuts, they feel clean, readily available from Dan & the team and they do a damn good job of work!!
So, all in all, much better value than an engement ring...
I'm thrilled with them.
Review: These are fantastic blades.
In the past I've used both Derby and Israeli blades with my Gillette Super Speed. But these are noticeably different. They've given me my closest ever shave and not a single nick! The first time I used a Feather, I couldn't stop touching my face - it was smoother than I've ever felt!
Yes, they are slightly more expensive, but definitely worth it - your face will thank you!

Review: I've been using this razor everyday for about 5 months now - both home and abroad. It is absolutely great. I didn't believe how compact the package was when it arrived, it folds neatly into a tiny case (which is of great durable leather) but don't be fooled by its small size, the assembled razor is still a hefty weight, rock solid and more than big enough to provide a great shave - not to mention the absolute flawless quality. I was sceptical about the short handle but it's more than long enough to shave with. The quality of the shave is superb but I have found it less close than other razors so it can take a few passes to get it right - and having very sensitive skin this can be a bit of an issue around the neck.
That being said, this is still the only razor I shave with (its not as close as my Gillette fusion but feels a million times better to use) I am confident that I'll be using it daily for a long ime to come.

Review: I have returned to the DE shaving fold about 30 years after leaving it.
So frustrated have I become with the gloop foams/soaps and the bewildering array of, frankly dreadful, modern 'razors' (and I use the term very loosely) that something had to be done.
Blind E-searching led me to Shave Shack and the immediate purchase of an Merkur HD 34C and it is an item of absolute beauty which works like a dream with my (Jordanian) Erasmic cream.
Only tried the free Israeli blades so far but Derby's and Omega cream are winging their merry way to join what will be a magnificent and probably costly obsession.
One question, why did Gillette, makers of such great kit in the 50s & 60s, leave such a huge potential market?
I love the look of the Edwin Jagger chrome 89 so that may be next but only after a badger brush.
The service from Dan at the Shack has been first class as have the products.
I'm in!!

Review: I was going to buy blades for my Mach razor the other day and they were next to a pack of razor blades. Looking at these made me think of my grandads razor years ago and I decided to look online and give it a go.
I looked over quite a few sites then found the shaving shack, together with the starter kit.
A few days later it arrived, and after getting from work i decided to have some 'Me' time and give it a proper go.
I had ordered the Lemon and Lime shaving cream and proceeded to lather up. Initially the blade does seem a bit scary and I was afraid of cutting myself, but if you take your time it is well worth it.
This is the closest shave I have ever had. No cuts or rash.
I am never going back to the 'ordinary' razor. Do yourself a favour and get one - honestly.

Review: Havin never really used shave creams having tending to stick to the usual Gillette gels i decided having recently acquired a Parker 89r razor i should back it up with an appropriate brush and cream. My Proraso cream arrived this weekend, so thought i would test it out. The shave was far smoother, and closer to the skin. The razor just flowed across the skin with the Eucalyptus leaving a slight tingle on the face. Hardly any cream is required on the brush to create a good lather, so i would highly recommend this product at a fantastic price

Review: I ordered this as my first shaving soap, along with the Merkur HD, when I first started wet shaving several weeks ago. Now that I've been using it for some time and the pot is almost empty, I can highly recommend this to everybody. A few swirls of the brush generates mountains of smooth and wonderfully-cushioning lather. The fragrance is very pleasant and clean, and doesn't linger after the shave, and the soap has a cooling sensation on the skin, especially with the cold-water splash at the end of the shave. This product is widely-recommended and touted as one of the best available for good reason. Try it out.

After reading around, it seemed that this was almost universally recommended as the perfect starter razor: medium aggression, comfortable to hold, easy to control and well-balanced. Product: Merkur Vision 2000 Safety Razor with Satin Chrome Finish (Gift Tin and Blades)
Review: This was my first DE razor and what an introduction. It is about the largest model I have seen and it certainly gives a good introduction into the world. I was already a dabbler into straight razor usage and wanted something to allow for a quicker shave be it at home or away and this allows for both.
The razor itself is well made and has a lovely finish. The ability to change the aggression of the cut makes all the difference when learning but don't do what I did and spend each shave trying a different setting. This razor works better if you get to know a range of settings before deciding which one is for you, don't be afraid of the scarier end of the scale.
Overall I would say that it is a good razor but very expensive. Not to bad for a novice, afterall it was my first, but I would say not entirely essential either. Perhaps something to work up to once you have tested the water with a cheaper model.
As for the Shaving SHack, the service was excellent and very quick, all that could have been wanted really.

I've had about 2 double pass and 2 triple pass shaves out of ONE side of the blade (I have a goatee so only cheeks and neck) and am starting to get razor burn only now so would say for me I could get them to last at a blade a week which is fantastic when you consider the cost.

Product: Safety Razor Starter Kit (IS)
Review: I'd decided to give the retro/old fashioned/whatever way of shaving a go because my best mate had given me some Caswell & Massey sandalwood shaving cream as a gift for being his Best Man and I loved the smell of it and wanted to use it. The side of the box insisted that for best results I should use a shaving brush so I fired up Google which lead me to The Art of Manlines website, the Brush & Badger forums and the Mantic YouTube videos all of which screamed at me to get myself a DE Saftey Razor, blades & brush. A quick search of various sites told me that The Shaving Shack was the cheapest place to go with fantastic customer service. When I mentioned all this to my Dad, he laughed as he had only thrown out his Gillette SuperSpeed a few years ago and here was I thinking of getting something not totally dissimilar. My parents also decided that they would give me this as a 35th birthday gift as it's the sort of thing a father should give a son.
I started off wet shaving in my teens but increasing razor burn saw me go electric until a few years ago when I grew a goatee (which I still have). The electric razor wasn't preceise enough any more and didn't give precise edges to my beard so I switched to the Gillette Fusion as I liked the additional rear blade for cutting the hairs between my nose and moustached (they grow upwards for some reason which tickles like mad!).
How does this kit compare?
The Connaught is a nice looking Art Deco styled razor with a TTO (twist to open) action which looks fantastic and mechanical in operation and also reassuring for a newbie who is rather intimated by the bare blade. The handle is long and perfect for someone used to cartridge razors. There is real weight to the razor which just feels like a proper manly tool in your hand. I really cannot explain it any other way. The razor is no more aggressive than the Gillette Fusion when coupled with the Israeli blades that Shaving Shack supply as part of the kit and their freebies. Granted, the Fusion is relatively difficult to cut yourself with, but so is this if you don't hold it at a stupid angle. I've been going for a couple of weeks now and two days ago did my first 3 pass shave which my 5 year old daughter claimed left my face as smooth as a baby's bottom with "no roughies when I stroke up or down, Daddy!". If SHE is happy with it then ANYONE should be!
Oh and for those of you who are green - the blades are fully recycleable and basically insert back into the bottom of the cartridge they come in so you don't have to worry about exposed blades lying around.
The Pure Badger brush is one of the cheapest I have found but the quality isn't compromised as far as I can tell. The lather I whipped up in 2 minutes is think and the brush holds the cream well as well as retaining a lot of water.
The matching drip stand is invaluable for increasing the life of the brush and is perfectly happy being wall mounted as there is a screw hole in the back of it. On it's own it is also the cheapest priced stand you will find online including eBay.
Finally, the cost savings. I've been using a Gillette Fusion up until now and at 4-5 for a can of foam which has a LOT of waste & doesn't smell particulary pleasent and 10 for a pack of 4 cartridge blades I soon realised that I could save some serious money - even more so when the Shaving Shack give you 30 blades as part of the pack and then another 10 FOR FREE as you are spending over 9.99. How bargaintastic is that?!

Review: I received my new Parker 89R razor only 2 days after ordering, so was very impressed by the Shave Shack Service. Now i had already shaved that morning using my Aveda range of shaving cream and my Gillette Mach 3 razor. It is this usual routine i have become sick of due to the cost of the blades and the soreness towards the end of the week that i decided to try a Double Edge Razor. Now i read many a review like this and decided upon the Parker 89r, for one reason its cost and secondly the reviews for it being a great starter razor. I was not disappointed last night when i tried it out. I did not have a great deal of growth but thought i am going to try and adjust to the razor and i found it relatively easy, the 89r is well weighted and allowed for easy stokes across the face, with a shave far closer than that of my Mach 3 blade. Felt very fresh after the shave and extremely happy with the clean look that was left afterwards. would definitely recommend this razor after only one shave and definitely recommend the service of shave shack.

I used to use a Mack3 but the shave you get with this is so much better (girlfriend loves it as well) that I'm never going back.
A word of warning if your intent is to save money (which you will on blades in the long term). I find myself wanting to buy and try other DE razors and already have two on my list (38C and the Futur). I feel an obsession coming on.

Review: I bought this little fella after reaching a state of extreme discontent with the shave I was getting from my Mach3. Half a dozen cuts and a face left more sensitive than a politician's ego isn't my idea of a good shave.
I used to use a DE razor way back when I began shaving at the age of 14, in the 1970s, but hadn't handled one since then, so I wanted a DE safety razor with similar characteristics and the Merkur 42 fitted the bill perfectly. I fitted a Derby Extra blade, brushed up a lather of Erasmic (a brand which I also used to use in the dim and distant past!) on my multi-grained (hair growing in FIVE different directions) face and set to.
What a delight! The razor glided over my face even on the first pass on a lazy fortnight-worth of stubble), a second pass and a few "touches" here and there, and I had the smoothest shave I've ever been able to get outside of a visit to the barber! Have I been (re)-converted to "traditional" DE safety razor shaving? You betcha, and all for the cost of a couple of months' worth of Mach3 blades!!

But I find that of my 30+ vintage Gillettes and modern Merkurs, THIS is the one that consistently gives me blood-free shaves.
Maybe it's the weight of the head, meaning it needs no additional pressure, but it's proved to be a God-send.
I recommend it used with the Israeli blades.
Review: Just shaved for the first time with one of these... with a view to eventually graduating to a real straight.
Left and right cheeks and sideburns, two passes.
Although I had a slight graze to my left side, I'm well pleased with how well it went!
I think the secret is to lay the razor flat against your face, then tilt it up to the correct angle. The sensation of the naked blade skimming your face is amazing. Can't wait to try a real straight!!
I'd recommend this for anyone with any interest in straight shaving - it's cheap and helps you develop correct technique.
Review: Bought this as my first DE razor and am delighted with it.
Shave 1 - one pass, setting 2 - comfortable but not very close at all.
Shave 2 - two passes, 2 and 2.5 - getting there
Shave 3 - two passes 2.5 and 3 - pretty much as close as my old cartridge on a good day
Subsequent shaves - three passes 3/3.5/4 - really nice smooth shave with zero ingrowing hairs, and surprisingly nick/cut free.
Would recommend to anyone.

Product: Merkur Plastic Travel Case
Review: I bought this at the same time as my Progress. The Progress just fits (very snug) which is great as it does not rattle around inside. There is space provided for two packs of blades (careful though not all razor packs fit 10 blade Feathers do not, most others I tried did fit).
The plastic is very rigid so I do not know how well it will stand up to airport baggage handlers loading techniques. I would suggest care be taken in finding a padded place in your luggage if you are taking it on a plane trip.
All in all though a great case which fits all the short handled Merkurs and accommodates all the blades you will need while yau are away.
Review: I have a Futur and a 1904 for travelling. Reading review after review about how good the Progress was I decided I would buy one and try it.
It is smaller than the Futur but carries a nice head weight and the manufacturing finish was very good indeed. I was drawn to the head shape, it looks very clean without the blade retaining pins being visible underneath.
My first shave was a revelation! It shaved impressively close on setting 2 but without me having to maneuver the bulk of the Futur, especially under the nose it felt effortless!
Blade replacement/removal is a dream (compared to the push off Futur), unscrew using the plastic handle end cap pull the top and blade off and the reverse to put it all back together again. Very little chance of cut fingers there.
I have yet to dial this razor in properly and find my most confortable setting but my first experiences have all been positive. I cannot find fault at all!

Product: DR Harris Arlington Shaving Soap & Bowl Beech (100g)
Review: The Arlington soap from D.R. Harris is one of my favourites ever. It produces a lot of lather even with softer brushes, and lets your razor glide across your face smoothly. The smell is quite strong (light citrus and fern with a clean soap undertone) but after shaving it won't interfere with any aftershave you're planning on using.
The price might be a tad steep to potential buyers, but this tripple milled puck should last daily users about a year, so definitely worth it.

Review: My first "dip" into a shaving soap bowl - used this on the morning I got married last July and it helped to make me feel well groomed! The bowl lasted for over 6 months and I am now using the more subtle Sandlewood. Might go back to this next time because the smell is so evocative for me.

Product: Merkur 37C Slant Bar DE Safety Razor
Review: This is my first high quality razor. Comparing it to the 2 Chinese made rubbish I used so far, it is a dream come true. Not a single cut, no razor burns no irritation what so ever. I took it to a 3 day stubble and in just 3 passes it took it all off -- BBS. So far I have only used the Israeli made bonus blades but I don't think it will be a disappointment when I switch to the feathers. Michells wool fat soap goes great with this razor.

Review: I've been using these for a fortnight now in my Merkur 38c and have stopped wondering which blades to use. I was slightly apprehensive because of their much-vaunted sharpness but, now that I'm more relaxed about them, I'm routinely getting no nicks at all. 1-2 passes give an excellent fuss-free close shave. Slightly more expensive than the others but most definitely worth it.

Product: 30 Israeli Made Double Edged Razor Blades
Review: These look like exactly the same blades that Tesco sells with their own branded packaging. Great blades! Best of all get 30 free if you spend 9.99 or more. I get one less shave than I get from Derbys but thay are just as sharp and I get no irritation.
Review: Good... but careful..
i was looking for a new engineered razor. i bought this razor and started used...at first impressed by the heavyness.. but then learned that can be the best friend to shave without apply any pressure to the razor. amazing shave, no doubt but... sometimes too close.. it's somehow aggressive compaired to other razors as merkur hd or progress. anyway after you learn how to use properly, it give to you one of the most close shave ever. the price here is amazing and after several use it looks like the first day. in other words a razor that will resist trough time .

Product: 30 Derby Extra Double Edged Razor blades
Review: Great value for money! Smooth shave and longevity. I have a fairly heavy beard and use pre-shave oil and Taylors Shave Cream to try and smooth the way. I found Merkur, Israeli and Wiklinson Sword all pulled a bit despite my preparation. The Derby's do not! A lot smoother with less irritation. I use these in both my Futur and 1904. I have ordered some Feathers from Dan to try but they are going to have to be good to oust the Derby from being my blade of choice!

Has a spring clip for holding a packet of razor blades. Robustly made and will last a very long time. If you are into old time kit then you must buy this!

Product: Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream (100ml)
Review: Very good pre-shave cream.
I have used various different oils before, including the Taylor Of Old Bond Street Essential Oil which was expensive. This cream is a lot better, and you get the menthol 'burn' on your skin which really makes the beard hairs soft.
I no longer get shaving rash and this cream makes ever pass smooth, against and with the grain.

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: Shaving is not something I never look forward to. Ive always found problems with both electric and modern cartridge razors including ingrown hairs, razor burn etc. I had become resigned to the fact that this was just the way the world was until I did some further research on the internet. Many people suggested using a traditional safety razor such as the Merkur 34C. After using this razor for a week, with traditional shaving cream and a badger brush my response is simply this: Where have you been all my life?. Although shaving in this way takes a little longer (particularly for an inexperienced user like myself) the shave is pain free during and after and Im getting a closer shave than ever before. I no longer dread the morning shave, in fact, I rather look forward to it. Also the money saved on razor blades is really quite something!
The razor its self feels like a quality solid tactile instrument, which is something I have come to expect from German engineering. Im sure this will last me a lifetime!

Product: "Shogun" Luxury Onyx Super Badger Shaving Brush
Review: When I first saw this brush I knew that I just had to have one for my rotation. The overall virsual appearance and the notion of having a brush with a stone handle just appealed highly to me.
I have been using this brush for a while now, testing it with various creams and soaps. I must say; I have not been disppointed. Neither by the appearance nor the performance of this brush.
This brush is a good all-rounder. I have tested it with Proraso SC, Musgo Real SC, Omega SS and Mitchell's Wool Fat. No doubt this brush excels with creams, but it is no bad soap brush either. If I used hard soaps exclusively I would probably have gone after the "Zen", a pure badger version of the same brush. Generally this brush is a better than average performer; perfect for creams and good with soaps.
I had actually expected this brush to be a "special occasion" brush when I bought it, but I find myself reaching for it suprisingly often. This brush has more to it than good looks, it is also a solid performer and a bit of added luxury to the everyday life.

Product: Merkur 42C Nickel "1904 Replica"
Review: I have just bought one of these. Why? I have a Merkur Futur (which I love!) but I wanted something a little smaller to put in my travel bag and after looking at what was available I chose a 1904. Merkur do make a functional Travel Razor which is more expensive but has the advantage that it reduces to fit into a very small pouch but I didnt feel I needed to go to that extreme! The 1904 razor has a lovely classic design, small handle and a nice weight which feels just right in the hand. It has great manoeuvrability and is small enough to get at those harder places (under the nose especially a trouble spot for me) easily. This may be at the cheaper end of the market but quality is not sacrificed, it is very well made in three solid, nickel plated parts all with a mirror like shine, and I think it will long outlast me! It gives a close shave but not an aggressive one and even those with sensitive skin should not have any trouble with the dreaded razor burn making it an ideal starter razor. Hard to believe the design is 105 years old! Things have not changed that much, have they? I use mine with Derby Extras and Taylors Shaving Cream, the ideal combination for my face. Buy it here, you will not find it cheaper! Even as a second razor, you will not be disappointed, your main Razor may even get relegated!

Review: I've been using this with excellent results for a fortnight now, having had it recommended last month by Sam Tellig in Stereophile magazine. The last time I used a safety razor was ~30 years ago - my late dad's! Since then, it's been various landfill-bound disposabes and cartridges. This is a whole other experience. Okay, it requires a bit more care and my shaving seems to have become somewhat more ritualised - I lather and heat everything up much more now - but the 38c works beautifully. It doesn't just feel good in the hand due to its weight, but it gives a much cleaner shave, even with just one with-the-grain pass. Highly recommended, then (by me, this time!), for novices and returnees.

Product: Speick Shaving Cream (75ml)
Review: This german shaving cream is one of the most popular on the market, along with Proraso and Musgo real, and it's easy to see why. Speick lathers up very easy, and gives a rich, slick lather.
It's scent is easily identifyed along with Speick's other products; The Speick flower, and some notes of citrus and spices. It preforms as well, or better, than creams that costs four times as much.
Speick Shaving Cream is one of my top three creams.

Review: I didn't realise just how much I liked this product until, somebody bought me some Crabtree & Evelyn shaving soap. There was no comparision between the two. Even though the Crabtree had a plessent sandalwood smell, it was no way as refreshing as this Taylors of Old Bond Street cream, with its warm traditional sent.
Also and more improtantly for me the lather on the Taylors, was so much better. Alot creamier lather that left my bristels alot softer, for a better shave.
Review: I bought one of these as a starting point to getting into straight razor shaving. For the money it's a fantastic deal. If you're not sure whether you want to shave with a straight blade, buy one of these and it will convince you, in less than a week I'm getting better shaves than I have ever done with my Mach 3 Turbo! Perfect for holidays, as well. Highly recommended.

Review: Name the things you have owned for YEARS ? Not a lot I bet... well, this is a LIFETIME purchase !
A top quality piece of German steel that will outlive you !
Ive spend 30 years looking for this razor... and like ANY quality tool - it needs practice to achieve a decent job, but thats not to say you will bleed on the way... DE shaving isnt as hard as some folk make out, as long as you follow 2 rules:
1:DO NOT "press on" - guide it over you face only.
2: Make sure the blade is touching skin !
The last one sounds obvious, but there are 3 edges to drag along the face - ONLY the middle one is the blade.... its easy to get the angle wrong, and require lots of "passes" - which creates soreness.
You shave with your EARS - you will soon learn the "right sound" then it becomes automatic.
Once you have "mapped" your face, and get the angle right, its as easy as a cartridge razor, only closer.
Plan on spending a month or more to get the hang of it... and you will be rewarded with an excellent shave EVERY DAY.
Try different soaps and blades too - they are NOT all the same, and different folk need different combinations !
A "Rolls Royce" of a razor A+++

Review: Wow my face is alive!! Just applied this post shave and it feels amazing. It smells like Vicks Vaporub. My skin feels really cool and the sensation lasts for about 20 minutes. You've gotta try this!!
Review: Straight from the box this is quite an intimidating razor due to the size and weight you expect it to be quite a handful and it does not disappoint! I have been using it for a week and am now getting braver (but still respectful) with the adjustments and so far, touch wood have had no nicks or cuts. I now know that you need to work with the weight of the razor, pulling as you do with a lighter one does not work and would probably be a bit dangerous until you have been using it for a while. My shaves are getting closer and find my skin is not as irritated as it was with my four bladed quattro. Styling is what attracted me to the Futur, I think it is a true work of art. My only criticism would be the push off blade change which I find a little cumbersome for something that looks so good. All in all I love it and get the feeling that when I learn to use it properly I will love it even more!

Review: My first foray into the 'real' shaving creams market and I must say I'm impressed! Although I cannot compare it to similar 'real' shaving creams it runs rings around the brightly coloured 'gels' and 'foams' that I used to use (even the King of Shaves stuff which is actually pretty good!). Lathers up easily on the face and only requires a dice-sized amount for a full shave. The only downside is that the smell is a bit too "mature" for me (22yo), so next time I'll be trying a different scent.

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: As a 22-year old starting my first real job in the City after graduating, I felt that the perennial nicks and razor bumps caused by my 'juvenile' shaving with a Mach 3 had to be banished for good. After a bit of searching on the net on how to get a better shave I came across the Shaving Shack and I haven't looked back since. The Merkur HD Classic is an excellent example of German engineering at its best. It's perfectly weighted which means no more pressing down on my face and thus no more hacking away at my skin. The knurling on the handle makes it easy to grip even with wet hands and the screw down design works perfectly. Although many say you have to be more careful with DE safety razors, I'd disagree to a certain extent. Although it does take more time to get an even shave (10mins as opposed to 2-3mins), I very rarely cut myself with this little beauty and razor bumps are a thing of the past. Although there are cheaper DE razors out there, if you are a first time entrant into the market I cannot recommend this model highly enough. Although the razor itself may seem expensive, in the long run with the low cost of DE blades it works out far cheaper than my Mach 3. Go on, spoil yourself!

Product: Kent BK4 Silver Tip Badger Shaving Brush (White)
Review: The Kent BK4 is known to be the best value for money silvertip brush available. Having tried it now I must agree to that.
The silvertip knot is soft and feels extremely soft and luxurious on you skin, but is still dense and stiff enough to exofoilate your skin efficiently.
The handle is beautifull and very ergonomic, it's weight is a perfect counterbalance to the knot.
I have tried the brush with both soaps and creams - I find the brush equally effective with both. I have heard claims that this is one of the easiest brushes to use, ever made - I know that it is the easiest lathering brush I have in my collection.
All in all this brush is highly recommendable - a well assorted shaving den is not complete without one.
