The engraving of the skull and cross bones is amusing and serves as a warning to cartridge shavers.

After a day of dipping in warm water and liquid soap the smell of the wild has gone and bloomed well. The dense, soft but well backboned knot, lost just two or three hairs during the first day and works well even with hard soaps. Im very satisfied.
Finally, to prevent the sticker falling off, I applied a couple of coats of nail polish.

Product: Merkur Plastic Travel Case
Review: I bought this travel case for my Merkur 34C "HD". The case looks very nice, but the plastic is a bit weak. When I used the case for the first time in my domestic flight, the razor had bounced inside the box so badly that the case cracked. I guess this case is mainly intended for Merkur Progress, because the HD seems to rattle a bit inside the box. I think this case protects the razor quite good in home conditions, but be sure to pack it inside of clothing in your suitcase for avoiding this kind of mishaps!

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: My first DE razor was a cheap plastic model from Boots, and Merkur 34C "HD" was second. I noticed few key differences between these two. Although Merkur is a quality piece of equipment compared to some cheaper brands, it took some time to get used to. At first I noticed that it's quite heavy, much more than I expected; even though the handle is quite short. I used to have Mach3 razors before my discovery with safety razors and the 34C really seemed to be a bit too short. After the the first shave I was a bit disappointed with the result because it didn't cut as good as I expected. But the reason come clear when I examined the blade more closely. The head of the razor seemed to bend the blade a little, so the cutting angle wasn't the same when shaving with a straight blade. That's why I had to learn to use my new razor in a different angle, which took some time to get used to. Also inserting the blade wasn't so easy as I thought. The head didn't tighten just by screwing the nob at the bottom of the handle, so I had to use my other hand to push the head downwards to get the blade become strained. The safety bars of the razor's head are also quite thick, so the head tends to clog when shaving a longer stubble. I use the razor to shave my bald as well, and especially hair seems to clog more than beard. For that reason I guess my next razor will be an open comb model.

Review: I bought the product to try it since it's the first time I buy the shaving cream Truefitt and I must say I am not particularly enthusiastic. The cream on the face is not very dense after having worked with the brush and a few hours after shaving his beard already feels. I represent that I use Feather blades. Product: Erasmic Lather Shaving Cream (75ml)
Review: Now this was a positive surprise.
I tried the Erasmic shaving stick that was utterly crap a couple of months ago but didnt want to abandon Erasmic just yet since the price on their products are really nice. I was a bit skeptical of this cream regarding its low price and my bad experience with their soap. The scent on the cream was much better than the soap, it will not smell that good in the tube but it will get much better when you start making the lather. Making a lather out of this cream is super easy, either if you make your lather in a bowl or on your face and you dont need that much cream to make enough lather for a 3 shave pas, for me it was enough with cream the size of an almond.
For me the cream is OK but if you consider the price the cream is very good. By the way, the size of the tube is perfect for traveling and it has found its way in my toiletry bag. Since the cream is practically free I would highly recommend that you add this to your next order and try it out.

My father does't like to change things, so i was very happy when he said that he is using his new razor insted of he old ones. I have used it with with several different blades including a 7 O'clock, a Shark and a Feather and all delivered a superb shave in this razor. Well worth investing in one of these.
Review: personally i don't like these blades. They don't seem to cut my coarse dark hair. They do however work well for my friend who has light fair hair.
Review: I actually received this razor by mistake - it should have been the DE89L. However, as the prices were the same and I liked the feel of the shorter DE89 in my hand I decided to stick with it. And I am so glad I did!! My first venture into DE shaving has been fantastic. Only a week in and my shaves are easily an equal to those I had with a Gillette proglide with the added advantage that I can now shave daily (my skin would only allow every other day previously.) the razor is also very forgiving - it would take a lack of attention to cut yourself and I'm becoming more confident with every shave. Would recommend this to any new shaver - great starter razor and at the moment I can't see that there would be any need to change in the future.

Product: The Bluebeards Revenge "Cut-Throat" Shavette/Straight Razor Renewable Blades
Review: Like many of the other reviewers for this product I brought this shavette as an introduction to cut throat style shaving. The stainless steel componentry is good and the locking mechanism for the half razor blade is very secure and relatively easy to operate. I am slightly disappointed in the finish on the plastic handle, which less than perfect. However, this does not detract from the good performance of the tool. And for less an a tenner one or two cosmetic imperfections arent a problem. When I first started using this shavette I deliberately loaded it with a feather blade that had been used in my DE razor a few times before. This really took the aggressiveness away from the edge and gave me much more confidence. Had to be very careful none the less.

Review: First, I would like to say that this blade is quite soft. I use it with a merkur 37G which is very aggressive and I never had cut. The blade slides very well on your face and I would recommend it for newcomers because the shave are really comfortable.
Review: This has to be the most outstanding razor currently on the market. From the wooden box packaging to the all stainless steel industrial construction, it just oozes quality. But it's a rare beast indeed that can match style with substance and this razor delivers in abundance. Other things being equal it provides a closer, smoother, the most comfortable shave I've ever had. No razor burn, baby butt smooth shave in just three passes (WTG, XTG and ATG) with the fewest number of touch ups.
It's described as a relatively mild razor (ie the blade isn't exposed that much) but boy does it deliver. The shaving angle is slightly steeper than other DE razors around 50 degree angle instead of 30 degrees. But get it right and the whiskers just fly off.
Yes at over 160 it's significantly more than the average razor, but it's a magnificent tool that I'm delighted to have in my den.
Review: I'm not sure how long brushes are supposed to last, however I've had this one about 6 months now and the hairs have begun to fall out so its time to replace. Good buy for the price!

Review: I haven`t any idea what kind of razors Parker`s are, these razors look like very much Merkurs and Gillettes e.g 38c and Slim adjustable. I have purchased my 99R, because it is very inexpensive and I read so many reviews from it.
Today I got this razor, I was very eager to use it right-away. First impression: Very strong made and handle is robust, It`s easy to hold with soapy and wet fingers.. First shave with Indian made WIlkinson blade and Erasmic shave stick... Hmmmm.. I Was little disappointted. First&second; pass: blade slipped few times- no nicks or cuts, but it was inexcact.. Maybe I have to try again and I`ll practise with technique for exam different blades/different blade angle. But I think that main reason for that little blade slipping is Erasmic shaving stick. It was quite difficult to lather it. The lather was pretty poor and thin. It dried very fast on my face.
All in all now I am stubble free and I feel my smooth cheeks;-) But I`ll hope that next shave with 99 R would be better:) I`ll try it with Feather blade and WIlkinson`s shaving soap.
Review: This is my first DE razor. I'm still learning on it and it is really easy to shave with. It provided my first rash free shave in a long time. I use it everyday!

Review: I just got my razor. I couldn't wait and started my preparations for shavng.
I used feather blades, loaded my brush (simpsons chubby) with lather (dr harris lavender soap) and started the process.
I've got very sensitive skin, so I had 3 passes: 1st pass with the grain, 2nd&3rd cross.
Although I was afraid that I would end up full of cuts and knits nothing happened. The razor performed really well and I expect more from it as it was my first time with a slant bar DE.
I didn't get that baby smooth face but I can't blame the razor since I didn't shace against the grain.
It weighs as much as my muehle R89 but it lacks in terms of quality and finish. I would call it cheap but it shaves really well.

Review: I used to sell these back in the 80s in a chemist shop I worked in but never used one until last year. I know the company and its dedication to quality and had no hesitation in buying the BK2.
The brush is superb. I can't imagine myself ever wanting anything more expensive. I hesitate to say better, as this is my only experience of a quality badger brush, but can't imagine that doubling the purchase price will get you much more than a 5% improvement in subjective quality?
The red box is nice but superfluous. I'd rather pay less for the brush sans box, but this is all part of the Kent experience. Since selling them back in the day, I've always liked the company and its quality products so it was natural that I chose this. I would heartily recommend it, despite there being cheaper badger brushes available. With Kent you know you won't be ripped off. You'll get a prestige item at a sensible price.

Product: Tabac Aftershave Lotion (100ml)
Review: I remember seeing Tabac in the chemist shops in the 80's and mentally lumped it in with the Old Spice and Brut.
Since then, it has all but disappeared from the high street. Its made in Germany and readily available through website sellers like The Shaving Shack. I wanted to try the lotion to complement the Tabac shaving soap I had tried. I knew from the soap that its fragrance was light and floral, but still manly.
The lotion itself is an alcohol based, wake you up, stinger, not a soothing balm like many modern products. Its the sort that you pat on while making faces and oooh, aaah noises, followed by a brrrrrgh and a shudder! I quite like it! Its a macho way for a man to wear perfume. You can get Tabac after shave balm if you're a wimp.
The fragrance lasts well and is never overpowering, even when freshly applied.

The bowl itself is reusable and refills can be had.
The scent is very floral and unlike most other gents fragrances. It is still manly and admired by the opposite sex.
The use of this soap will make you feel you are an Edwardian gentleman and I mean that in a good way! Now, where did I put my ticket for the Titanic voyage?

Product: Merkur 38C Barberpole
Review: I returned to DE shaving after I ran out of double-blade Gillete cartridges, that I'd bought in bulk. I couldn't believe the price of triple, quadruple bladed cartridges! Then I read in a music forum lounge that people were dissatisfied with the recent quality of cartridge blades and that many were returning to DE razors.
I resigned myself to internet research as there were no people in my immediate circles to ask advice of. Those with experience of DE razors have passed on, while my contemporaries all follow the TV advertising led herd.
Reviews here and on other shaving sites all pointed to one brand in particular; Merkur (or Mercury, as translated). They alone had the reputation built over many years and had a range of razors to choose from.
I have large hands and wanted a razor I could easily hold. The 'Barberpole' 38C fitted the bill (and my hand) with a long stem and beautifully engraving, that means I have no fear of slipping.
I soon learned that those advising a featherlight pressure on the skin were very correct! It seemed so different from my previous hacking with the Gillette twin blade. Still, a little more reading about double and triple pass techniques soon had me shaving to a standard I had never experienced in my, oh, 35 years of shaving.
The 38C looks stunning. The chrome plating (more resilient than nickel) looks superb and after 10 months use looks just as good as it did when freshly unpacked. The bottom of the razor twist to release the head, which lifts of to reveal the blade. Changing the blade is easy, just make sure you are alone in the bathroom when you do it! I speak from experience.
I reckon this razor will see me out and then hopefully be used by my descendants, its that well built. The packaging is a little 'Military' in its plainness, but don't let that disappoint you. At least all of your money is going towards the razor itself. The feeling I have towards the 38C is the same as I have towards my Paul Reed Smith guitar. Its a pleasure to behold and use. Its more capable than I am. That said, I'm getting better!
The 38C isn't cheap and is quite a commitment for a first time or returning DE shaver. Fear not, it shaves close but isn't 'aggressive' as I understand the term used here by people with more experience than me. It shaves close and only needs a light touch onto the skin. It balances beautifully, is easily gripped and looks superb. I'm glad I chose this one. I would have had to get one eventually, so why not save money by getting it first?
Review: Having found the delights of DE shaving last year, it was only natural that I'd strive to progress to a straight razor. This is my first step on that voyage. Well, what can i say. A decent weight, easy to use and the blade locking mechanism is very firm. And at this price, you really can't go wrong! Give it a try!

Review: After a lifetime of overpriced cartridges and an electric razor I decided to try DE safety razors. The cartridges and electric razor worked but failed to give me the quality of shave I really wanted (not to mention the obscene overpricing of cartridges). There were always bits of stubble left and the end result always looked uneven to my critical eye.
Researching the razors available this one seemed very popular as a beginners razor so I went for it. I also got some proper shaving cream (rather than the crappy aerosol stuff from supermarkets) and a nice quality brush.
What a difference it was as an experience shaving this way - like night vs day! The shave was clean and no uneven bits of stubble left. Finally I'd achieved the quality of shave I'd always wanted.
For those starting out I would recommend purchase of a good quality shaving cream (such as Taylors products) and also Proraso shave cut healing gel - works as advertised and stops bleeding fast which may be useful while you are getting used to shaving this way.
This particular blade is very nicely made - high quality and pretty much perfect. I can't think of any way it could've been better - so no regrets choosing this model at all
If you are thinking of trying safety razors - in my opinion - just DO it! You won't regret it and this model of safety razor is a perfect starting point.

An almond-size amount of cream will give you copious amounts of lather that last for three to four passes! I shave six times a week and one jar last for six months! I highly recommend this product to shaving cream newbies who want great value for little money.
Review: I like this razorblade a lot. The first shaves, it is quite sharp, but not too much, and holds this for several shaves - in my case 15 to 20 (with thick hair). This is my favourite.

Product: The Bluebeards Revenge "Scimitar" Double Edge Razor
Review: Since I am new a this I am not as experienced as others but I just have to share.
After using a cheap "no name" de razor for a very short while I decided to go all the way and buy a real one...
After browing the internet for a couple of weeks (yes I am one of those people that have to compare everyting to be sure), I based my decision on pure vanity and gut feeling.
I just couldnt resist that skull. It is just so cool, no I am not 9yrs old, you have to add another 30yrs to that.
Now I have used it for a while and I cannot belive why nobody told me about this before. For 25 years I have hated to shave.
Now I love it, the close shaves and the fact that I dont have to worry about irritated skin anymore.
Try this one, you will love it, I use it with Bluebeards Revenges shave cream and post shave balm and the result is amazing.

Product: Merkur Futur 761 Adjustable Safety Razor with Chrome Finish
Review: Best xmas present i've had in years. Have hated shaving with cartridges for the 30 years i have been shaving, now enjoy the art shaving is with a DE.
Used to suffer with ingrown hairs but not now, cuts easier with less passes and a lot closer. Used Mekur blades to begin but now prefer the 'feared" Feathers!

Product: Derby Extra Double Edged Razor blades
Review: It was this make of blades that I got along with my first DE razor at Christmas. I was very pleased with them, that I bought 100 from the Shack (great price!). These should keep me going for a year as I normally get 3 to 4 shaves of 3 passes from them. I am so pleased with DE shaving, have no intention now of going back to "multi blade" or "electric". You need a good shaving cream to go with this (Taylor's Sandlewood). These blades are a good all round for sharpness/safety/durability/ price. For disposal of blades I just pop them back in the box under the new blades for disposal. Highly recommended!

Product: Vulfix Old Original Shaving Cream (Sicilian Lime 225ml)
Review: This is my everyday cream of choice, it smells fresh (even better when mixed up), generates a generous amount of lather with minimal work and very little water is needed thus allowing the razor to glide about without pull or irritation, a pot lasts for months and months, my only slight issue is that the pot has rather amateur looking labeling on the outside which is quickly damaged as you open the pot and also if the pot gets wet.

Product: Proraso Ultra-Sensitive Shaving Cream Jar (150ml)
Review: Great product. My skin is very sensitive to any scented treatments - even so clled sensitive ones but I have absolutely no problem with this. It lathers up well, is easy to wash off and so light it doesn't stick all round the basin - which earns me brownie points. Thoroughly recommend it.
Review: For a freebie they are fine, but I wouldn't buy them when Derby and feather are so much better. I found they lost the edge quite quickly and were prone to rusting unless dried after every use - which is a nuisance. Not bad, but Shaving Shack offers better options in my view.
Review: Having already bought and been very happy with the Merkur Futur, I thought I'd try this one. Using the same blades (new as well) it made for an interesting comparison. The Futur is far more comfortable! I might travel with this one, not sure, however I won't be using it for a daily shave. Where the Futur is smoother than smooth, this is quite draggy for some reason. It's undoubtedly a well made thing, but doesn't seem to work as well for me.

Product: Erasmic Lather Shaving Cream (75ml)
Review: Its hard to describe the scent of this Erasmic cream, which is nothing like the Erasmic soap. Its not a scent I immediately liked when opening the tube, although it wasnt in anyway offensive. Upon lathering it up for the first time, however, I found it produced a good lather which provided a comfortable shave. On using it for a second time, I decided that the scent wasnt as bad as I had first thought and on repeated use I have actually come to enjoy the scent. This really is a cream which performs above its low price tag and, unlike the soap, its an Erasmic product that I will definitely buy again.

Product: Refill for Tabac Shaving Soap Stick (100g)
Review: I struggle to find fault with Tabac. Before buying it for the first time I read numerous reviews which seemed to suggest that its scent divided opinion, though all seemed to agree that it produced a great lather. I was therefore pleasantly surprised on opening it to find a scent that I immediately loved. If I had to define my idea of an old-school scent this Tabac spiciness would be it. The lather is always great. In fact, I find its near impossible to get a poor lather from Tabac, and a little really does go a long way which, considering the low price and the countless shaves a 100g will give, makes this a great buy. Everything about Tabac the scent, the lather, the price guarantee it a constant place in my rotation.

Product: Simpsons Polo 8 Best Badger Brush (PL8)
Review: I've got a few Simpson brushes, and this one is one of my favorites. Using it with a good cream or soap it's real luxury!
Though you can use it with hard soaps and for face-lathering, you really enjoy it using a bowl and then painting your face with such a soft hair.
If you'd like a big brush and intend to use it mainly in a bowl, you can't be wrong with Polo 8. Also, the price at shaving-shack is really a bargain.

Product: Taylor of Old Bond St Shaving Cream (Sandalwood 150g)
Review: Like Hans-Joachim, a little dissapointed the smell is not derived from the essential oil. However, that said it does make a fantastic lather, and razors just glide through it, even a mach 3 blade that's had about 3 shaves too many. . .
Far nicer than the gel in a can, and look how small the tub is compared to a can, plus you can re-use the tub. Try re-using one of the squirty cans. . .

Product: Semogue Boar Shaving Brush Model 1520
Review: Although it's about 2 quid dearer than a brush avaliable in a certain high street chemist, you'll find it saves you money in the long-term, i.e. far superior build quality. It won't have lost 1/8th of the bristles 3 months down the line and split halfway along one side. . . Plus it feels nice in your hand, and with a suitable stand it is far more pleasing to the eye than a little lump of anonymous plastic.

Product: Parker Model 89R Three Piece Safety Razor with Nickel Plated Finish
Review: Arrived quickly, this is my first "proper" razor - Won't be going back to the multi-blades, they feel way too light and plasticky. It's got a good weight and balance to it. A little longer than the Merkur 38C, but for those of us with larger hands it's perfect.
Review: I decided to switch to shaving with a DE razor when my wife bought me the Vulfix Scilian Lime shave cream from Shave Shack this Christmas. I started with the Wilkinson Sword Classic and whilst that (after the traditional novice nicks and scrapes) was an improvement on any cartridge razor I soon decided to upgrade. Intensive research eventually gave me a short list from which I chose the Muhle R89. The quality is outstanding and it feels like a much more expensive piece of kit. The plating is flawless and the design attractive. The razor, even in my inexperienced hands, feels nicely balanced and has given me a smoother and more comfortable shave than I thought possible.

Review: Works really well I find to prevent irritation after an ATG shave. I got a sample free on my last order and will order a full size when this runs out. Another excellent product (also look out for the deodorant stick which is superb)
Review: After decades of multibladed razors I went old school. So glad I did! My first shave went really well... only a few nicks, and I'd get that anyway. The razor (with a new Feather blade) was a joy to use. The only reason I'm not giving it full marks is I dropped it! The handle is very smooth (Read "slippery when wet"!)

Product: Astra Platinum Double Edged Razor Blades
Review: A great blade, sharp (agreed not as sharp as Feathers) and smooth. I also find these last as well as any. These are much better than Derbys in my opinion and I suspect would work well with most razors and faces. I keep a few in my washbag for travelling as performance/cost is superb.
Review: Available very inexpensively and I was not expecting much but I have recently used these daily (instead of my usual Feathers)in my Merkur 34C and on occasion in my EJ87 and been really pleased with the results. I rate these much higher than Derbys, but of course everyone has different tastes so best to buy a sampler before making bigger orders.

Product: Merkur 42C Chrome Plated "1904 Replica"
Review: Bought as a gift, but liked the look of it so much I decided to keep it.
It is slightly lighter than my 34C and you have to adjust technique accordingly but gives a very close and satisfying shave with a range of blades. The low price, high quality and classic design combine to make a superb razor. Worth considering as an alternative first razor along with the Edwin Jagger options.

Review: My current razor of choice with Feather blades. Gives a superb shave, feels perfect in the hand and seems like it will outlast me as it is so well made.
I also have the 34G in gold, which performs identically but feels a bit special for high days and holidays.
Whichever finish you choose this may be the last razor you buy!
10/10 Top recommendation.
Review: The razor I started with and a great introduction to the joy of proper shaving. It also compliments the EJ brushes in your bathroom with a high quality design and finish.
Personally I found Derby blades too mild with this and swapped for Astra Platinum. Currently in my washbag for travelling.
You can't go wrong with this razxor.
Review: I have waited for some time before I submitted this review. Being relatively new to DE shaving I wanted to ensure that I began my journey with the razor I was going to have a lasting relationship with. Shaving is such a personal activity, you want to mak sure you've got the right girl by your skin! This razor is an absolute babe! She glides (once you have found the angle approx 45 deg) cross ways, up and down. The weight is just perfect and she balances in your hand like a dream. Its a real delight waking up and knowing that I am going to have a great start to my day! Combined with Feather razors and excellent combination I think for pros and beginners (worth the investment!)
Review: This is a very well constructed razor, certainly the best quality I have come across. It is much less aggressive than a Merkur HD for example so I find that two passes are needed. The bonus however if the complete lack of irritation. It's so smooth that shaving rash is now a thing of the past. Highly recommended!
