Product: Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream (100ml)
Review: This stuff is excellent as a pre-shave; moistens the skin and bristles and leaves a protective coating below your lather.
I can't stress enough how little you need to apply though: the pot is small for a reason. Use it correctly and it will last a long time. Use too much and your face will have a strange, gluey feel...not ideal!
I must admit I have never bothered using this post-shave. There are better products for that.

Review: I thoroughly recommend these affordable blades for beginners to DE shaving. They are forgiving of errors and give a close enough shave to learn with. Product: Alum Block
Review: I've made this alum block a part of my every shave. I cannot vouch for its ability to quickly heal nicks and cuts, but applying it after I shave and leaving the residue on my face for a minute or two (it stings!) has noticeably reduced my razor burn. Also, it seems to never diminish or get smaller, so it will last a very long time.
In case anyone was wondering, it does smash if you drop it on a hard floor!
Review: I'm new to DE Shaving, so here's my story (Scroll to the bottom for my review).
I have quite rapid hairgrowth, but frustratingly not enough 'coverage' to sport a beard. So for the past couple of years I have switched between packs of 99p disposable razors and an electric shaver with results varying from bloodbath (razors) to ingrowing hairs (lift and cut electric shaver).
Just recently I have changed jobs and the need for a freshly shaven face has moved near the top of my priorities.
After a little research I decided to try DE Shaving in the form of a Boots brand razor, shaving cream and brush. (Total less than 10).
Hindsight is a great thing so armed with no technique and a less than adequate lather I proceeded to treat my face to razor burn and a few cuts.
With my freshly stinging face I trawled the internet again to learn the proper techniques. After allowing my face to recover for a few days, I tried again. After a few weeks, with the same 'cheap' combo, I eventually managed to shave without cutting myself.
However, I was still having problems shaving against the grain on my jawline and read that an adjustable razor would be less aggressive on this area.
So having learned this old art, I decided to buy myself a 'proper' razor and had my heart set on a Merkur Futur. Unfortunately at the time of writing, it seems everyone else wants a Futur and the factory can't keep up with demand, so I settled on the Progress coupled with a tub of Taylors Sandlewood Shaving Cream.
The razor is about 2/3rds the length of my Boots branded razor, 3 times as heavy and is very well engineered. I have read reviews on other sites saying the chroming is poor, the metal has sharp edges and the plastic adjuster is tacky. I can confirm that none of this is true with my razor. It really does look and feel like a 35 razor should - 10/10 for build quality.
In the hand it feels good and resting the base on the little finger helps prevent slipping.
Now for the shave. One word. Hurrah!
With the razor on its lowest setting, using the Boots brand razors (the packaging looks like the Israeli Blades) and the Boots Shaving cream, I get a close, 3 pass shave without razor burn!
I've yet to try the Taylors cream as I wanted to just compare the razors.
If you want to venture into DE shaving, take your time and read as much information as you can; its very easy to go into this blind and give up with a sore face!
You needn't spend the earth on equipment; most of it is learning the proper technique.
I'm very happy with my purchase, it works for me and service and advice from the Shaving Shack is top notch!
Smooth Shaving!

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: Ordered Wednesday night and it arrived Friday morning. Was worried that the handle could be too short when I first got it out of the box but it's a nicely balanced razor and handle length was perfect when shaving. Used with a feather blade and combined with the 34C gave me the finest shave I've ever had. Very, very impressed with the Merkur 34C. A fine piece of kit.
Review: All that has been written about this razor is true. Its a beautifully made piece of art and it looks stunning in my bathroom. The handle is a good size and its very easy to use. The quality of the shave I got was amazing. It takes a bit of getting use to if youre coming from a multi blade cartridge but perceiver as you will be rewarded with a much better shave.

Product: Semogue Boar Shaving Brush Model 830
Review: This is simply the best value for money brush available. Dont believe all that youre told about boar hair. The hair is not cut to shape like some cheaper brushes and its of a very high quality so the hair is very soft from the start and it gets better once is fully broken in.
The hair can be a bit smelly the first time you use it and some of the dye comes out on the first use. Simply wash it with a bit of shampoo to get rid of the smell and do a 2 or 3 test lathers to get rid of the dye. Also, do let it fully dry between uses to help it to break in.
Personally I think that the handle is very good looking. I love the clear plastic and red knot cover. I find its a good size to hold and use.
Over all, its a great brush for everyone. Get it, you wont be disappointed!

Review: Decided to get this because my face started to burn after a few shaves, and have been using it for a few weeks now and I have to say, I'm impressed. My face no longer burns after a shave and it produces a really nice lather that stays on the face and doesn't dry out you skin, also after the first pass it gives a really nice tingly sensation to your skin. The bad things about it though is, it can be tuff to get a nice lather going and the smell isn't very pleasant, at least in my opinion.

Review: I bought this brush as my first brush. I wanted a good value badger hair brush and seeing as I'm about to start a new job with lots of travelling I thought this would be perfect.
It is a very nice brush and I can create a good lather from it without any trouble. It's obviously relatively small-so not as comfortable to hold as some bigger brushes may be, but that's expected in a travel brush.
It will certainly hold its own until I upgrade to a luxurious and large silver tip. Although I will probably still use this one most as it will fit nicely in the wash bag.

Review: Being my first ever DE razor I have little to compare it to. However I bought this razor as it was suggested as a very good first razor for anyone new to traditional shaving and I have to say it was excellent advice. After spending hours researching forums and watching mantic59's YouTube videos I have just had my first shave with this razor. The build quality is excellent and it feels solid and nicely weighted. Combined with a derby blade I managed a very good first shave and felt completely in control with this razor. Product: Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream (100ml)
Review: Ok, there's not a great deal that hasn't been highlighted on the Shave Shack Reviews regarding the performance of the Proraso Cream; of course as both a pre and post shave cream, it's utterly amazing. However, when I first entered into DE shaving, it was one of the first products that I purchased, but has anyone actually told you how to use it correctly?
Well, as I often ended looking like I had smeared my face in white paint with residue all over the place, here's my recommendation and it works for both your pre and post shave routine:
The essential requirement with using Proraso is to use it in tiny quantities. Certainly a pea sized amount is just far too much and I now use just a dab of a finger into the jar, with minimal product applied to each side of the face; less is better with this product. Secondly and most important for the post shave routine is to make sure that your face is wet when you apply the cream. Whilst your face should not be completely soaking, a cold splash to seal the pores after you've done your final pass and then by the time you've opened the jar it should be perfect. Finish it off with a waft of air from a towel, cupboard door or a hairdryer on a cold setting to get the intense hit from the ingredients, then some Proraso Balm and you will be in shave heaven!

The razor is small, but has a good weight to it and is very well put together. The included blade seemed sharp enough and with a two pass with and across the grain shave it felt significantly less harsh than my previous Gillette Fusion razor, with better results.

Review: After good communication over the availability of Merkur DE razors, Dan very kindly pointed out the this Futura as being available so with a late order, first class requested, I got my items after a delay with the post. No problems. Nice turn around time from the Shack.
To the product - tool more like. Very heavy compared to the Wilkinson Sword DE razor. Hefty is slightly better way to describe it. The top cap teases off, blade drops in and cap snaps back on and you are ready to go.
Using Merkur blades. I did a first pass at 1.5 then a second pass at 2. Very clean shave all round. In fact, the best I have had after a shavette shave from a barbers in Dublin.
The razor rinses clean after each stroke and so no bar or blade clog.
But, be careful if you decide to adjust the blade - it is easy to grip the edge so wrap a towel around it. Also when popping the cap off to change the blade. Common sense really.
I'm going to get a blade selection pack next in order to find THE blade.
Overall, as an investment, I'm happy with this. I'm of the 'buy cheap, buy twice' thinking and I feel that the Futura is a lifetime partner. It is a quality, well made and engineered tool. It is also supported by a great retailer which is nice to see these days.

Product: Proraso Shave Cut Healing Gel (10ml)
Review: I have to admit that whilst I have bought a range of DE safety razors from Shave Shack this was one of my first purchase. I knew that it was inevitable that, at some time, things could go slightly adrift with my technique. Well after trying a Merkur Slant Razor tonight for the first time it did! Whilst I can freely admit that it was technique that left the cuts on my face (the technique on each razor is something to research, learn and embrace), it was satisfying that I had the Proraso Shave Cut Healing Gel at hand. I have DE shaved with a number in my rotation, but the Merkur Slant gave me the cuts that I have never experienced before - aside from the cuts though, it gave a truly fantastic shave and is something that it is worth progressing to perfect!
I followed my shave with the usual routine of the Alum Block, then the Proraso pre-shave cream and waited; unfortunately, it wasn't that long before a significant amount of blood began to appear that the Alum block did not cure and it was time for the cavalry! Within seconds of applying the Proraso Shave Cut Healing Gel the cuts had gone and I was back to a sealed face - albeit with a raft of blood that was centered around the cut.
Do I truly recommend this product - yes, as it is my final cure to the problem of razor cuts. However, you should be aware that it does leave a blotch of blood mess over the nick that it is covering. Overall, if the worst happens, then NEVER be without the Proraso Shave Cut Healing Gel and the convenient size means that you can easily store one within you wash bag - just don't expect it to leave you looking like you've got a 100% correct technique when things go wrong!

Review: I love this little thing. I've found it required a bit of adjusting to my shaving technique because I'm used to using a long-handled Merkur 180, but I'm starting to get consistently good shaves out of it now. My one piece of advice is to practice shaving with it at home a couple of times using your regular routine before you travel with it, since your prep might be significantly different when you're on the road (travel brush, soap stick etc.) and you'll be overwhelmed by the unfamiliarity of all these changes at once.

Product: Simpsons Chubby Best Badger Brush (CH1)
Review: I reviewed numerous websites and opinions on what shave brush I required to enter into the real world of DE shaving. I can save you the hassle of undergoing the torture of 2 days analysis that I undertook and state that if you get just one brush in your life then make it this one.
The Simpson brush arrived in old World packaging with the model number hand written; nice touch. I promptly reviewed how to break in the brush, get rid of the natural smell infused within the badger hair and make sure that it was optimal for first and future uses. It's that simple to do before the first use that it's worth highlighting here:
a. Rub the brush in a detergent such as a washing up liquid and rinse; I used Fairy Liquid.
b. Leave in a solution of the detergent (again I used Fairy Liquid) and water in a cup) for a few hours; solution was the same dilution as you would use for washing up. After it's been left for a few hours, rinse thoroughly.
c. Lather in your favourite shaving soap (I used Mitchell's Wool Fat) and leave the soap on the brush overnight; this is when the magic occurs! In the morning rinse the brush as you expect after using and dry as normal.
Seriously, if you don't believe that this is the best method for breaking your brush in then google it - you will not be disappointed and significantly improves both the qualities of the brush and the time to break it in!
Overall, the reviews I undertook highlighted that the Chubby 1 Best was preferable over the Super; whilst I have not tried the Super, I can understand why. It is a beautiful brush that defines British craftsmanship to the nth degree. The brush stands up on its own upside down and, used with any decent soap or creme, it will provide the ULTIMATE in luxury when applying your favourite lather.
Do not hesitate, or baulk at the price as the Chubby 1 is a work of art and something that you will truly treasure for years to come. I recently also purchased a Kent and Semogue brush and there is no comparison to either. If you want exceptional service and a great price then Shaving Shack were the best available; trust me I looked forever! Moreover, if you want the most superior brush available then the Chubby 1 Best is the one for you.

Review: Stunning!
I used to be a fan of the Taylor of Old Bond Street range and although they are still good, this is so far ahead. The Taylor scents smell very synthetic compared to this. It smells beautiful, feels really good, lathers well and leaves my face feeling great. I also reckon I'll get about a years worth of use out of the soap - this makes it a bargain (and even cheaper if you get the refill)!

Review: A lovely gentle citrus aroma that smells very natural. A few drops go a long way, so this bottle should last you at least six months and it wouldn't be hard to stretch it out for twelve months!
A very nice way to start your shave.

Product: Dovo Snakewood 5/8 Stainless Steel Open Razor
Review: I am a new starter to the cut-throat/open razor set.
I have a straight razor and a leather strop similar to the free one you show in your offer.
The only problem I find is it is a very expencive craft to be engaged in, recently I purchased some of the honing pastes which are well over priced for the ammount received in the minute tubes!. Ifeel that glycerine or a similar lubricant would do the same job for a lot cheeper price!
I think i will return to my old safety razor, as I find this over the top pricing out of my and i would say the average persons limit.
I shudder to think how much it will cost me to send the razor to be sharpened profesionally, PROBABLY CHEAPER TO BUY ANOTHER RAZOR!!!
regards

Product: Truefitt & Hill Luxury Pre Shave Oil (56g)
Review: Although it works wonderfully well, I only use pre-shave oil before anything important when I dont want to risk and skin troubles as it give the added benefit of skin protection.
This really does work and it could mean the difference between an average shave and an excellent one. A couple of drops applied and well rubbed in is all it takes. Some other brands on the market are really thick, nearly like a gel, and can lead to troubles with sticky brush hairs or residue on the razor head and sink but, as this one is fairly runny, as soon as its applied and well spread out, its like it was never there and youll have none on the above annoyances from thicker versions. The cushioning and protection is great though and, used sparingly as you should, itll last for months and months.

Product: Muhle R41 Grande Long Handle Double Edged Chrome Safety Razor (Open Comb)
Review: For razors, as well as the shave performance itself, I always enjoy the quality metalwork and there is no finer than Muhle. The plating and finish on these razors is absolutely superb, flawlessly mirror finished and the handle is beautifully checkered for both grip and comfort. The shave itself is easy with the blade seating perfect on the pins every time due to build quality being excellent and this razor benefits from no drag whatsoever while travelling along the skin.
The R41 really suits a couple of passes, with and across the grain, as youre good to go after that. Some people do enjoy a third, against the grain, pass but I dont think its necessary with this one. Craftsmanship at its very best and it will last for many years, giving great service.

Product: Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes Shaving Cream Bowl (190g)
Review: This is one of my very favourite creams. It has both the desired qualities of top lather and a gorgeous smell. I was drawn to it originally after buying the matching cologne then reading rave reviews about this cream and this certainly is indeed the same grade of product. Easily whipped into a rich and creamy lather which shaves so well, it is always a pleasure to use and makes for a relaxing and close shave, every time. Couldn't falt it in any way!

Product: Fitjar Lighthouse Bay Rum Shaving Cream (200ml)
Review: When you go into wet shaving there are many available creams and soaps to make lather with. There's a mountain of products to choose from. One thing I will happily say is that Fitjar is the very top of the range in both categories. I have used several of their soaps and creams and the results are always the same. A rich, creamy lather which shaves wonderfully well and leaves the skin fresh and invigorated afterwards. There's no irritation or fuss due to the careful, hand chosen and manufactured products using only the finest and kindest ingredients. The best quality you can get, and this Sandalwood, among others, is superb. Give it a go and you'll be hard pressed to go back to another maker - it is that good.

Product: Simpsons Chubby Super Badger Brush (CH2)
Review: The Chubby in 3-Band super is a fantastic brush with a well deserved reputation as one of the finest available today. This is the most luxurious soft tipped hair you can buy and is my own favourite for such a large and dense knot. It blooms out wonderfully well, and quickly too, meaning that you'll be getting the maximum comfort while lathering immediately after starting to use this superb brush. The handle is comfortable too and the Chubby can deal equally well with both soaps and cream, to make a rich protective beard covering during your wet shave. I have no doubt in recommending this one and it will serve you well for many, many years.

Product: Merkur 42C Chrome Plated "1904 Replica"
Review: Having been using a Merkur DE safety razor for the last 2 years and loving it in comparison to modern razors. i decided to buy one of these for a friend. In the end i ending up buying one for him and one for myself! A great little razor which is small enough to fit in your travel bag but still comfortable to shave with
Review: So glad I choose this one can't believe thats it's more comfortable to shave with a 4-5 bladed system (which I'll never go back too) and so much cheaper too. In 2 months this razor has paid for its self. Can't recommend it more highly. But I will say that if you have hands on the bigger side of large you might find the handle a little to short.

Product: The Bluebeards Revenge Luxury Shaving Cream Sample (20ml)
Review: Got this cream as a free sample. I'd definitely recomend to try this one out. Even in case of hard water this cream creates very good lather, not the slickest, but what's important no irritation even with sharper blade use. Well about slowing beard growth I can't pass a sentence, because I'm rotating shaving soaps and creams too often and sample quantity is too little to see effect..Next time I do my shopping here I will probably purchase same brand aftershave..

Product: Musgo Real Shave Cream (100ml)
Review: An effective shaving cream which produced a really good lather with super badger brush. Only needed small amount to make enough lather for 3 pass shave. Used with a Merkur Futur DE safety razor. My skin felt smooth and lubricated / moisturised throughout. The fragrance, whilst not unpleasant, is slightly strange and would benefit from a hint of lavender / bergemot as it does smell a bit like mown grass, which some may not like. Overall, a rich moisturising cream at a reasonable price.

Product: Gillette 7 O' Clock Double Edged Razor Blades
Review: As a realative newcomer to DE shaving (changing from the ever increasingly expensive fusion blades) I tried a variety of DE blades. I tried a number of different brand of blades but always seem to go back to the gillette and is now my "go to" blade. They may not be the cheapest but price isn't everything! A consistantly smooth shave with no pulling or tugging of stubble no matter if a days growth or 3/4 days either. I normally get 4/5 shaves per blade (or a week if shaving everyday) and at about 10pence a blade using a blade a week a tenners worth of blades (100) last for nearly 2 YEARS ! Using an Edwin Jagger DE89L and gillette 7o'clock blades is a great combination and ideal for newcomers and experienced DE shavers alike. On the downside not quite as sharp as the Feather blades, but there again what is? besides an uber-sharp blade isn't everything, a smooth comfortable shave with no burn or irritation is!

Review: Cheap menthol cream in a toothpaste tube, I didnt get on with it to be fair, found it hard work to lather (although when youve worked it up its fairly comfortable to use) and the lingering tones of soap didnt exactly go down well with my other half (smells like old men was her comment). Product: Proraso Shaving Cream Jar (150ml)
Review: A fantastic product that seems to last forever. Builds up to a thick creamy lather than spreads easy and does not dry out. I soak my brush, let water run out then a couple of flicks and a rich lather works up.
I have a bit soft growth but still need a pre-balm to help the razor glide. I have experimented without pre-balm and find Proraso moisturises nicely. I'll try some other soaps but suspect I might not find better. It is unscented, or very mild, which suits me.

Review: The first pre-balm I have used and it makes a significant difference to the comfort of a shave. I apply enough with my finger tips so my fingers start to glide over my face then my blade glides with no pulling or bunching of skin that brings can bring cuts.
It freshens my face, and only has a slight fragrance, and leaves it moist enough I don't need to re-apply after the shave. The tub is small, but is lasting me a long time.

Review: These are my favorite blades, almost as sharp as Feather but cheaper so better value, though not sure if I'll treat myself to Feather. They last 5-6 shaves, and I have a bit soft growth.
They are sharp so cuts can follow, but a cold final rinse and technique soon gets a comfortable and very close shave. As in all shaves a good pre balm (Proraso) gives a lovely smooth shave and fresh feel; and my wife says it makes me look younger!
