Review: A review from a female perspective: I am horrendously allergic to those moisturising strips they put onto disposable razors these days. My only choice recently has been the cheap bic disposables which I do not like, so I decided to look for an alternative. I didn't know what these razors were called, but I knew they existed. A quick internet search brought me here to this double edge razor. I read the other reviews and decided to buy it. I was also looking for something a bit more eco sound than chucking a bit of plastic every month, so this fit the bill nicely.
It arrived within 2 days so great service from Shaving Shack. It's dinky and looks really well made. A quick inspection revealed that you twist the bottom to open it up to insert the blade. You get one blade with the razor and I got a free pack too. I chose the new hi-stainless feathers. I put one of these in and went for a shave! Being a girl I obviously wasn't shaving my 5 o'clock stubble, but I did have a go at my legs and and under arms! It was really easy and felt very smooth. No snagging or dragging like the disposable ones. I thought my knee might be tricky, but I did it the same way as usual and it was fine. The only thing I changed was keeping the back of my knee as straight as possible when doing that part. I was worried about doing under my arms, but again it was just as easy and they look less agitated than normal! I also didn't use a brush or shaving soap, I just gave my legs a good exfoliate with my scrubby gloves to work up a lather from my usual soap and it worked really well! I did the same for my arm pits.
I'm very pleased with this product and the results and it was a lot easier to use than I expected. Ladies, if you are on here looking for a gift for your man, maybe consider getting one for yourself too!

Review: Looks good and shaves really nicely. First week of de shaving ( can't believe took so long to give up other methods) and tried couple of blades as well as the merkur that came with the razor. For me, the razor is very easy to use and not aggressive at all so I found best results came from sharper feather blades.

Product: DR Harris Arlington Shaving Soap & Bowl Beech (100g)
Review: Coming into the world of real shaving was a bit terrifying with all the brands of soaps, creams and whatnots being available. Finally deciding on the Arlington variety I have to admit that I did so without having smelled it or even looked at it in real life before my purchase - it simply came down to good reviews, good looks and a tempting description.
Its very hard to describe the scent but it strikes me as masculine without being aggressive. Its not a bold fragrance, its more of a clean, fresh scent that feels relaxed and confident. Ive had some female friends smell it and they all love it.
Having used canned gel previously this was a great find. I only need a ultra liberal amount of soap to whip up a thick amount of foam - it seems to last forever.
Having very sensitive skin Ive come to learn that this works best when I use it with a pre-shave cream such as Proraso. It works well on its own though.
Last but not least the packaging is great. It looks superb in my bathroom and you hardly can say that about your regular foam can, right?
A quality product.

Product: Merkur Futur 761 Adjustable Safety Razor with Chrome Finish
Review: After 15 years of shaving with a Gillette Mach 3 I was ready to step up to the plater and try a real razor. After scouting the field I fell for the Merkur 34C but was then lured into buying the more expensive Futur model. For me the price difference didnt matter that much and I felt that the extra money for a neat feature like adjustment was well spent. I also felt that it was better to splash out right away instead of saving a few bucks and then upgrade later (which apparently is quite common).
For a beginner it is really great to be able to start easy and then gradually expose the skin to more and more of the blade by upping the dial. The grading sure isnt a gimmick - theres plenty of difference between using each and everyone of the settings. I quickly moved on up to the 3rd setting and have yet to move further.
I love the great workmanship of this product and dont doubt that it will last for years. Youd think that the chrome would give this a slightly bad grip but Im happy to say that this isnt the case.
Solid, built to last and if you gear up and get a matching brush and stand it looks adorable in your bathroom.

Product: Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream for Ultra Sensitive Skin (100ml)
Review: Having shaved with a Mach3 for about 15 years I recently decided to move along to a more classic way of shaving. I was a bit intrigued how different it was from what I was used to and also my skin did not appreciate it. I decided to try the Proraso Pre-shave cream after reading the fine reviews on this site and am very happy that I did. You dont need to use that much of it to get a great effect. The razor slides much easier, making it easier to shave and it has a nice menthol "zing" to it. It feels great. It smells great. It soothes the skin. a great product that I highly recommend to anyone.
Review: Love theese blades, used with the Prorasso range and my eg d89 I get the most amazing shave ever no need for any preasure the blade just glides through leaving my face smooth and rash free. Dont worry about trying them, once you use them you wont settle for anything else.

So much more pomp than simply opening a cardboard box This brush is huge. The handle fits my largish hands perfectly. The brush holds a huge amount of water and when face lathering there isn't even a hint of scritch. It's just a luxury feel of latherikng soap and puts a huge smile on your face. This brush creates a huge amount of great creamy lather, easily enough for 3 passes, in fact enough to have a complete 2nd shave.

Review: A little while ago I was lucky enough to buy (for the princely sum of 1.00 from a car boot sale) a classic Wilkinson Sword 'sticky' de razor, from the 1960s, a great bit of kit - a butterfly opening razor that is usually described as mild. Mine is not, it can be very aggressive. Anyway, the W S blade in the above razor - very sharp and slightly unforgiving. I would recommend this blade, but not for the beginner. The premium price? Second shave; more of the same but the blade started to snag/drag on the second and third pass - not quite so smooth. Third shave; just did not cut - gave up after the first pass and finished off with an Astra blue. Obviously about a thousand times better
than a five blade excuse for a razor, but not for me. On a more literal note, the blade is black like Marmite, but it is not sticky, nor does it intensely smell of yeast!

Product: Truefitt & Hill Luxury Pre Shave Oil (56g)
Review: A really excellent product. I am sure you will be wondering whether it is worth the price and I believe it certainly is. I use only 4 drops per shave, now these are only drops, not splashes. If you have been watching too many 1970s Brut adverts then it is only one small splash. I have been using it for 2 months and the oil level is not at the bottom of the neck yet, so I think it will last a year or so. I have tried using more drops but it seems to make little noticeable difference, so I stick with 4.
The oil is a light lemony oil, and is quite unlike others (mentioning no names but available in highstreet chemists) which can appear greasy and have to be washed off. There are comments on other oils that they reduce the lather but I have not found this to be the case with Trufitt & Hill using Taylors of Old Bond Street shaving cream (which I also think is fab). I think the oil makes for a smoother shave, but also it seems to significantly reduce the number of nicks I make which has also got to be good.
Using Trufitt & Hill leaves you refreshed, smooth, free of irritation and with less collateral damage. Great product. I will be buying again and giving as a present.
Review: Got this brush as wanted to try a boar brush but after reading about this mixed one I thought I would give it ago.
Its abit stiffer than my kent, which is what I wanted so its gives your whiskers and face abit more of an exfoliation. It also holds a good amount of water.
For the money this brush is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of getting a new brush.
Review: Bit tricky to get your lather right, but once you do this soap is one of the best. A clean, "soap" scent, very lubricating, thick and cushioning. Leaves my skin feeling smooth and nourished. Try it, work it, you won't be disappointed.

Review: After some 25 years of shaving with cartridges, I decided to try out the Merkur 38C Barberpole after seeing my friend's DE razor. He put me on to Shaving Shack, I looked through and put what I needed as a basic kit together (I already had a brush).
I wasn't sure how I'd get on and was expecting my first DE experience to result in lots of cuts etc. I also had a bit of length in stubble, so also expected some pulling.
What I actually got was the best shaving experience I can recall. It was an absolute pull and cut-free shave. no burn or irritation either (I used an Israel blade but have Feathers and Derbys' to try as well).
The Merkur 38C Barberpole not only looks beautiful, but the solid build means that the weight of the tool does a lot of the work for you.
I have never liked shaving... until now. I cannot wait until the next shave.
One more thing; there may be an initial investment in the razor, but the cost of DE blades compared to cartridge refills means that the investment will soon pay off.
Highly recommended.

Product: Shaving Brush Drip Stand (Cream)
Review: How does one review a stand without making it like the Amazon reviews of Veet for men etc?
Well, purely and simply if you have an expensive brush that you want to keep in good condition then this is the tool for the job. I got this as I never knew you were meant to let your brush air dry and store it with the brush end facing down and I realise why now. My previous brush has gone from looking like a brush to a scale model of Phil Spector's afro so when I bought my shaving shack brush I used this stand with it and my brush has been preserved much better.
It is quite small and plain, which is nice as it blends in well in the bathroom if you have space issues and the plain design doesn't make it stand out too much wherever it is.
Unless you MUST have a more expensive stand this is a good purchase to compliment your brush and keep it in good condition.
Easy to clean, store and can be wall mounted.
Review: This is my first purchase of proper shaving soap as up until this week my weapon of choice was Wilkinson Sword shaving soap, which was my first soap I bought 6 months ago and now that I have used most of it up I thought I would treat myself.
The first thing I noticed other than the vintage style packaging was the smell. It immediately hit me with a pleasant fragrance with a mild sweet taint to it and it reminded me of something familiar but I just couldnt put my finger on it. Eventually I came to liken the smell to Imperial Leather soap, though this isnt a bad thing as it is mild and noticeable but not as over powering as Imperial Leather itself.
The cake of soap is a good size for the price and as a bonus it also fits into the plastic casing/pod that the Wilkinson Sword soap came in so I didnt have to worry about a suitable soap dish.
Working up a lather didnt take too much effort or pressure with my brush and it went on my face smoothly without thinning out too much or drying too quickly. I combined this soap with an Edwin Jagger DE89 razor, shaving shack badger brush and Astra Superior blades and had a very smooth and comfortable shave with it. It didnt dry my skin out as much as the WS soap has done previously, didnt leave behind a strong smell of soap either but left a pleasant faint smell and soft, smooth skin instead.
I have blemish prone skin but thankfully this soap hasnt caused any (even though I felt a bit of razor burn during my shave) so due to this, the mild smell, amount you get and it lathering easily, it gets a thumbs up from me.
Review: Selected the Feathers as a gift from The Shaving Shack, whilst ordering the excellent wool fat shaving soap. The Feathers are extremely sharp and extremely effective. I was able to get a closer shave using these than I achieved with the Derby blades that I was using with my Edwin Jagger DE89L.10+ shaves per blade with no tugging at all. The Derby blades are definitely less aggressive than these, so will obviously be preferred by some, but for me, the effectiveness of these blades makes them a winner. Since getting the Gift, I have backed my confidence in the product by placing an order for more.

Review: Having purchased a relatively cheap badger hair brush in the past, I decided to spend a little bit more on my next brush purchase. I suffer from nasty razor burn/bumps, so having a comfortable shave is a must. This brush is the dogs, the bristles are so soft & together with a good quality shave cream they produce a stunning setup to a comfortable shave. Finger crossed it continues for a while & the pesky burn/bumps stay away.

Product: Derby Extra Double Edged Razor blades
Review: Browse the shaving forums and you will hear all the negative feedback about Derby blades. They are milder and not as sharp as some of the other blades and in an EJ89 I didnt think much to them.
HOWEVER, i tried them in my Muhle R41 (a more aggressive razor) and now i appreciate the milder blade and had a good shave with them. good for beginners or people with aggressive razors
Review: Another great Proraso product. I think the scent is more subtle than the blue or green. It's really easy to get a great lather from a small amount and leaves the skin feeling smooth after a shave. 6 for a great product is a steal
Review: My favourite blades so far. The first shave with them is paradise: it glides and cuts close, just how you want it. Give 'em a go.

Product: Proraso After Shave (100ml)
Review: This would not be for the gentleman who hits the nightclubs every night with his shirt open to his naval intending to knock the ladies for six with a potent after-shave. Rather this Proraso is subtle and classy with an exquisite, understated scent. It also performes the job after-shave is intended for and doesn't smell cheap like many perfumes in this price range.
Review: Can't fault these blades. Have tried lords, bic, Gillette and astra none of these come close. They are nowhere near as scary as some people say and I can get 5 shaves at 3 passes out of them. Excellent product and excellent service from shave shack

Product: The Bluebeards Revenge Shaving Cream, Brush and Double Edge Razor Gift Set
Review: Had this a couple of weeks new to DE shaving and must say after reading and watching videos it's a 100% no going back to the old way . My wife was amazed I did not cut my self and my skin was not red and blotchy . You get every thing you need to get you started for a good month or so .
Review: My first DE razor so nothing to judge against however it is a pleasure to use and the build quality it far superior to what I would have expected for the price. For the first time in over 25 years I actually look forward to shaving and do not begrudge the extra time a " proper" shave takes! So good was the service from SS that I have just ordered and received a Merkur Futur to expand my horizons, not that I am at all disappointed by the Edwin Jagger, quite the opposite!

Product: Proraso Shave Cut Healing Gel (10ml)
Review: Having just finished my first ever DE shave I found this product to be invaluable. As expected I got a couple of weepers, put some of this on and it sealed them up. Only requires a very small amount so I think the tube is excellent value for money.
Review: The DE 89L arrived this morning. After years of shaving with a poor multi blade cartridge razor I decided it was time to venture into the world of DE shaving. I'm glad I chose this as my first razor as I have just finished my first shave and it was magical. I would highly recommended this razor to anyone starting out!

Product: Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream (100ml)
Review: This stuff is magic in a jar and I only wish I'd discovered it sooner. Ive tried pre shave products in the past and never been impressed but I will be using this relegiously from now on, I thought Id discovered the holy grail when I switched to DE shaving, but this stuff has taken my shave to the next level, this has made my shaves super slick and eliminated any irritation. The cream itselfs smells like vicks vaporub and a tiny amount goes a long way, brilliant stuff.

Product: Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic
Review: I put in a fair bit of research before I took to DE shaving and for me it came down to the 34c and the EJ DE89. I chose the Merkur and I couldn't be happier. It feels nice and balanced and while the first time I used it was a little scary, I needn't have worried.
Great service from the shaving shack as well, I'll be buying all my shave gear from here for the foreseeable future!

Product: Alum Block
Review: The 6:69 facelift! Alum block, looks like marble, rub it over a wet face after shaving. Instantly stops any little cuts/nicks. Stings like hell, but the upside is, it tightens your skin like it was 5-6 years ago! Bloomin' miracle!

Product: Kent BK4 Silver Tip Badger Shaving Brush (White)
Review: Received the bk4 this morning and as always super quick dispatch from the shave shack, well packaged too! First impressions where wow talk about quality! It comes in a nice little red case, and a lil booklet that gives a short instruction on caring for the brush. The brush itself just feels right in your hand, the handle feels like a hard rubbery plasticy material with a nice logo printed across the front. The bristles are soft and floppy but it isn't a bad thing as a painting motion feels amazing on the face. After first use the brush has opened up a little and I think it's one of those things that gets better with time! I love this brush and now I wouldn't want anything else. Plus I got a free BBR towel with it which of corse was a win! Just go for it!

Product: Treet Original Double Edge Razor Blades
Review: I have found that these blades give me a very close shave, but they are rough and kind of brutal on my skin. I keep cutting myself with them, but I will persevere for a while longer. I think they would be best for people with very thick hair and unsensitive skin.

Product: Merkur 33C Classic Double Edge Razor
Review: Decided to buy this razor as an introduction to DE shaving as it was cheap enough that if i didn't use it the outlay wasn't too great but it is good enough to last many years if i become a convert.
I have to say i already love this razor, if, like me, you're used to cartridge razors it may seem small at first, but it is weighted beautifully and the size is no issue at all, plus it also looks great. The quality of the shave is excellent, far better than with cartridge razors, it takes a little practice to use, but it is not so difficult that you will necessarily cut yourself or will be unable to give yourself a good shave first time. With the shaving shacks own badger hair brush and a decent shaving cream i can't recommend this razor enough and can't see me ever going back to cartridges.
Review: Got a pack of these as my free gift when I bought a Merkur 38C, very good and close shave although as people have said apply absolutely no pressure otherwise you will need that styptic pencil.
I will be purchasing more when these run out (in about 3 months by the 1st blades standard!!!)

Product: Cella Shaving Soap (150g)
Review: It is an excellent soft soap (not a cream like is written on the box). Very good almond scent, and very foamy while mounting directly on face too. The price is good compared to the optimum quality of this Italian soap. I'm proud of this product from my country!
Review: This razor is an excellent choice for beginning. I bought it to try the DE shaving and I'm very satisfied. The butterfly system, the finishing and the color, make it very elegant and beautiful.

Product: Proraso Shaving Cream Tube (150ml)
Review: This is the best shaving cream I have tried by a long way, I really can't praise it enough. I live in a hard water area which means getting a decent lather with either soap or cream can be taxing and the lather can dry on the face very quickly. With Proraso the lather is dense and rich and stays so through a three pass shave. The razor effortlessly glides over the skin for the best shave ever. I can't see myself using any other cream. Superb, and as ever, superb quick service from the Shaving Shack.
Review: I had read that Feather blades were the best out there but not for newbies, so I have been practicing my techniques with Astra blades and thought they were great. I picked the Feathers as my free gift and I must say that they give the best shave I have ever had and will be the blade of choice from now on. Been double edge shaving with a Merkur 34C for about 6 weeks and combined with these blades you will not find a better shave.

Review: This is my first DE and I am really pleased with this razor!
It is heavy so you don't need to push it to your skin to have a close shave. The build quality is superb, and yeah I am one of those guys who miss the old times where things last forever.
This razor seems to be expensive for any DE newbie, but trust me - it is well worth the price!
