A brush worthy of the aristocracy!

Widely thought of as the most versatile shaving brush on the market today, the Duke 3 is handmade in England and densely filled with Simpson's exclusively developed 'Platinum' synthetic bristle. Not only is this type of hair perfect for vegetarians and vegans, it is softer to touch and quicker to dry. Furthermore, synthetic brushes are more resilient to deterioration caused by soap and cream and typically use less product when lathering, so it will save you money in the long run!

Established in 1919 Simpson & Co continue to make the world's finest hand made shaving brushes using techniques that have not changed since the firm was founded. Each handle is turned on a lathe, polished and then filled by hand with a "knot" of fine quality selected hair. The hair for each knot is sorted, weighted and tied by a skilled craftsman who then carefully cements the knot into the handle. The handle is then etched with the name of the brush.

The Shaving Shack verified purchase.

Delivered brush was probably a returned one, and I should have returned it myself if I would go through the whole sending it back. It came with the wrapping paper already opened and without the foam protection which indicates that this is not as new. Also the brush is probably one of the first editions as the loft is much shorter than the measures provided by Simpsons. Good quality brush but quite disappointed with the purchase.

Tips on caring for your shaving brush

Use warm water! Hot or boiling water can cause damage, ultimately resulting in shedding. Hot, in brush terms, is usually considered to be anything above the 50 degree Celsius mark.

Go easy with your brush! The core of the brush is where the magic happens and mashing down with your brush can twist and break the core hairs and over time cause hair loss and a dimpled effect in the centre of the brush.

Rinse and dry after use. When you are done using your brush shake or flip it hard a few times to remove all the water and hang upside down in a stand to dry. If you don’t have a stand dry the brush thoroughly on a towel.
