Author: Henrik Fredriksson My favourite brush! Other larger brushes (include other Simpsons) are somehow floppy and are mainly best suited for creams only. Not this one. Very nice size and a lot of BACKBONE but still soft on the skin. I have quite big hands but this is no issue. I have moved away from big brushes which tend to be messy. This brush serve you enough lather for several passes. This brush is all quality and looks terrific. Goes equally well with creams and soaps. This is THE brush gentlemen.
Author: Haroon Sheikh If your going to buy one shaving brush, make sure it's this one! It's reputation preceeds it. Like they say, good things come in small packages. But don't be mistaken, whilst lathering, this is a monster! Excellent water retention, soft bristles, and superb backbone so you can really give your face that vigorous scrub if wanted. One thing I have to mention is the density of this brush, bar none, Simpsons really have jam packed this thing so it gives the experience of shaving with a much larger brush. Superb crasftsmanship, handmade, excellent finish. I could go on all day, but I intend to tkae this brush with me to the grave, but it will probably out live me!
Author: Andrew Kerensky These are the bomb. I've bought a couple of brushes from here and other places but this one is the King. Yeah its a lot of money but its a lot of brush for the money.
Author: Aleksis Gailans In my opinion, this is the best brush you can get. Don't be put off by the price, it will last a life time! By my calculations it costs about .004p per shave - excellent value!
Author: S Donnellan I reviewed numerous websites and opinions on what shave brush I required to enter into the real world of DE shaving. I can save you the hassle of undergoing the torture of 2 days analysis that I undertook and state that if you get just one brush in your life then make it this one.
The Simpson brush arrived in old World packaging with the model number hand written; nice touch. I promptly reviewed how to break in the brush, get rid of the natural smell infused within the badger hair and make sure that it was optimal for first and future uses. It's that simple to do before the first use that it's worth highlighting here:
a. Rub the brush in a detergent such as a washing up liquid and rinse; I used Fairy Liquid.
b. Leave in a solution of the detergent (again I used Fairy Liquid) and water in a cup) for a few hours; solution was the same dilution as you would use for washing up. After it's been left for a few hours, rinse thoroughly.
c. Lather in your favourite shaving soap (I used Mitchell's Wool Fat) and leave the soap on the brush overnight; this is when the magic occurs! In the morning rinse the brush as you expect after using and dry as normal.
Seriously, if you don't believe that this is the best method for breaking your brush in then google it - you will not be disappointed and significantly improves both the qualities of the brush and the time to break it in!
Overall, the reviews I undertook highlighted that the Chubby 1 Best was preferable over the Super; whilst I have not tried the Super, I can understand why. It is a beautiful brush that defines British craftsmanship to the nth degree. The brush stands up on its own upside down and, used with any decent soap or creme, it will provide the ULTIMATE in luxury when applying your favourite lather.
Do not hesitate, or baulk at the price as the Chubby 1 is a work of art and something that you will truly treasure for years to come. I recently also purchased a Kent and Semogue brush and there is no comparison to either. If you want exceptional service and a great price then Shaving Shack were the best available; trust me I looked forever! Moreover, if you want the most superior brush available then the Chubby 1 Best is the one for you.
Author: Anthony Richards Oh my god I love this brush! It looks fantastic (obviously) and it just oozes quality from the second you take it out of the box. I followed the tips in S Donnellan's review and it worked well. The brush does indeed have plenty of backbone which is what I was looking for. The tips are soft (as soft as a well used Super Badger brush I have from Taylors) but it feels sturdy - a really nice combination. Yes it's expensive, although Shaving Shack was by a distance the cheapest I found, but it is well worth it - you will love using it every day.
