Could this be the ultimate soap lathering brush?

This new brush has been manufactured to the highest standards to meet the needs of soap lovers who require a stiffer brush to create the perfect lather. Progress Vulfix, esteemed shaving brush manufacturers, have filled this brush with the highest quality and carefully graded pure badger hair. Pure badger hair is regarded as the quality benchmark by many shaving brush manufacturers, and the hair used in this brush is dark and silver in appearance which immediately identifies it as being pure and above average standard.

Slightly firmer to the touch, this grade of hair gently exfoliates the skin prior to shaving, it has excellent water retention properties and will provide you with quality shaves for many years to come.

We feel this brush is an excellent introduction to quality shaving brushes.

First brush I have bought for d/e shaving. Liked what shaving shack said about the brush together with the other reviews made this sound like a good option, and they weren't wrong. I'm finally writing this review after 4 years of ownership. The brush is still good after this time and only occasionally loses a hair. When the brush does run its course I would definitely buy another.

This is an excellent brush for the price. Having just used it a couple of times, I've noticed that it has very good water holding capabilities, and lathering with this brush is very easy. This brush has lost only a tiny amount of hair during the first use, which I imagine is normal. I use this with a soft soap, so I reckon it would perform well with both hard soaps and creams.

Pretty good brush. Lathers well. Only negative is that I lose 2-3 hairs every shave. Have puck them off my face.

An excellent brush, really lathers up well and feels great across the skin. Had mine for about a month now and its still in tip-top shape. Helps move my daily shave closer to 'pleasure' and away from 'chore'!

This is a superb brush for the money. Very dense but not hard on the skin. Lathers soap very well but I have also used it with cream so a good all round brush. I had a synthetic brush before this and there really is no comparison. 10/10

I've been thinking about a badger brush for some time, after speaking to Dan I decided to go ahead with this one.
This brush is a quality product at a very reasonable price,it lathers up well and very kind to the face.
Great service and quick delivery from shaving shack.

Many thanks

For what you pay, It's a great entry into badger brush shaving. Holding plenty of water and having lots of backbone, it deals with soaps a treat.

However, It's not nearly as soft on the face as a properly broken in boar brush, which can often be found for a little less.
Or a better badger can be found for a little more.
I love this brush, and it would be great for anyone who lathers in a bowl, but if it broke soon, I'd replace it with a slightly more expensive brush.

After reading other reviews on Shaving Shack prior to buying this brush, I was slightly disappointed with this when it arrived.

Positives first: the price is good, it hasn't lost a hair and it's certainly a huge improvement on any synthetic brush. It holds water well, mixes up a good lather and is kind to the face.

My disappointments are various. The description specifically mentions a stiffer brush for soap but I find it noticeably less stiff than my other, older (also pure) badger brush which made no such claims about stiffness. When applying lather to the face, I find that the bristles splay out in an unsatisfactory way - of course all brushes will splay but my other brush splays so that the tips are still pointing to and massaging my face as the lather is applied. The Vulfix 660 splays so that the tips curve away and the shafts are in contact with my face, simultaneously a less pleasant experience and less effect in terms of lather application. Finally, the plastic handle is too light in the hand and feels cheap.

Most of these disappointments arise from perhaps unfair comparison with my other brush which was slightly more expensive several years ago - I'm sure that if this was the first badger brush I'd tried I would be very satisfied with it. If you've already got a pure badger brush and are looking for something different to what you're used to, you might want to keep looking.
This is definitely a good brush for the price. The pros are it holds a plenty of water and lather enough for 4 passes. I also lathers soap very quickly. This brush lost quite a bit of hair the first 5 times I used it. Hasn't lost any hair since. It took about 2 weeks for this brush to really break in. At first it felt quite rough on my face. I prefer cup lathering over face lathering with this brush since the hairs are a little too rough for face lathering even after breaking in.
This was first serious purchase of a shaving brush and was initially pleased with its performance. However the brush very quickly start to lose hairs and within 18 months was unusable. Very disappointed.
Best buy in this price class, it provides smooth and quick lathering, paired with some good soap, holding enough water and my face just adores this brush!

As part of my entry into DE shaving I chose this brush. I like the size, and the bristles are comfortable and its excellent value for money. One or two bristles are coming out now, maybe I'm a bit harsh in my lathering!

Great brush, really good value for the money. Can't really complain for the price.

Although I've used it about 3/4 times and have noticed the odd little bit of hair loss but I guess this is expected ones the brush has bedded in.

Overalls worth buying as a starter brush

Love the brush. At least a million times better than the bristle brush i got in a ten pound starter set.

My one complaint is that it flays out a bit and as a result some of the hairs are matted. It doesnt affect the brush performance any but i would prefer it being perfect.

It lathers up a treat and feels almost scratchy on your face. I view this as a good thing as it seems to really prep my skin for the upcoming DE 3 pass.

Typically brilliant service from Shaving Shack too.

I recently purchased this brush to go with the Mekur34 c.straight away it lathered up far better and felt much more comfortable than my previous pure bristle brush.A recommend piece of kit at a good price
Really nice brush for the money, holds water well and lathers up easy and quick.
When applying soap to the face it gives a nice even coverage. Perfect for a starter kit.

Only downside like all new brushes, a little sharp untill broken in.

Tips on caring for your shaving brush

  • Use warm water! Hot or boiling water can cause damage, ultimately resulting in shedding. Hot, in brush terms, is usually considered to be anything above the 50 degree Celsius mark.

  • Go easy with your brush! The core of the brush is where the magic happens and mashing down with your brush can twist and break the core hairs and over time cause hair loss and a dimpled effect in the centre of the brush.

  • Rinse and dry after use. When you are done using your brush shake or flip it hard a few times to remove all the water and hang upside down in a stand to dry. If you don’t have a stand dry the brush thoroughly on a towel.

Why is my brush shedding?

  • Intermittent shedding is quite normal across all makes of brush. Please read our magazine article that explains the issue, its causes and how you can prevent it happening: Why is my shaving brush shedding hair?!!
