I've bought the Merkur Progress 500 (short handle) and the Merkur Progress 510 ( long handle). Both great razors and both the best price at The Shaving Shack.
Remember it's as much about the quality of your shaving brush and cream. You can't beat Geo F Trumpers Spanish Leather.

It is beautiful and shiny and feels heavy. The calibration was ok. You have to be careful with the blade alignment..I mean to check that blade is equally aligned. It shaves excellent. I even like the plastic knob..looks vintage.

This may sound cheap but I seriously don't want to pay £8.5 extra for a 15mm longer handle. I'd much rather spend that money towards converting the 570 Progress to a long-handled "Mergress".

Im 64 years of age, and my fav razor was the Gillettte adjustable, but when these new cartrideg razors came out I got rid of it.
Worse thing I ever done.
Just recently I bought a new cartridge razor, but was disgusted with the shave it seemed as no hair came off.
Well that was the last straw I binned the lot.
Bought this razor, as I do have big hands with a selection of blades to try as well.
OMG what a fantastic shave this razor gives I had forgotten what a smooth shave felt like.
I used the Merkur blade that came with it which seems good, but I have many blades to try yet, so will decide what is best then.
The razor is well built, and the chrome finish second to none it does ooze quality.
Heavy head too, but I found that nice as the weight does the shaving, and you dont have to press like with a cartridge job.
The only thing you do have to make sure is that the tick on the head is lined up with the arrow this is so the adjustment works correctly.
I took the razor apart on the first day to inspect how well enginered it was.
Well I need not have bothered as it will last a lifetime.
Trouble is I dont think I will ever get my son to use one"God Knows Why ".

As a returnee to using a proper razor, no more sore faces. Started back with my old Gillette from the 70`s, then brought
a Parker. Decided to try and adjustable,
now have tried Progress, find it a delight to handle,and very pleased I chose the longer handled version.
Made mistake in stripping razor right down, no instructions Merkur. Easy to break down,but need to ensure collar on
adjusting stem is in the groove. Then to insert into outer handle, the collar needs
to be crimped so that it fits into the handle which is slightly smaller in diameter.
