I always used boar brushes, so I decided to try a badger brush. I choosed to buy a Kent brush because they are famous for the quality of their products. When I received the packet and when I opened it, i felt very excited looking the red presentation case. Once opened I found a wonderful object, not only a brush. The first experience with it was great, the lather was superb, luxurious and very quick to build, perfect with shaving soap. The brush is very soft, like a caress on your skin. This brush is considered "medium sized" but I wouldn't have anything bigger.
This is my first purchase with The Shaving Shack: very good impression, the price is the lowest on the web, the delivery was very fast, from lun to sat to deliver in Italy.

I received this great Kent BK8 brush a few days ago and am very impressed. I had read that many shavers view the Kent silvertip brushes as too soft or "floppy". However,I will have to strongly disagree. I have used this brush with Castle Forbes Lime Oil shave cream and also with a rather hard shaving soap. The brush produces an enormous amount of good, thick lather with both products. And the bristles are supremely soft and comfortable on the skin.Additionally, the size of the brush is just right. Very handy indeed. An additional note; I also have a Kent BK12 brush and this BK8 is much, much smaller and easier to use. I would also like to thank Dan(?)in customer service. He was a great help in advising me on the pounds to American dollars rate and also gave me what amounted to a $20 discount to offset the VAT that I initially paid by mistake. Finally, the brush took only 4 or 5 days to arrive in California from Great Britain.Rapid delivery. I give a 5 star rating to this brush as well as the great people at the Shaving Shack. "Bravissimo amici".

I was very pleased when I unwrapped my Kent BK8 today. Aside from being very nicely packaged in the tamper-evident red tube, the brush was individually wrapped in a delicate paper twist to help show it was new.

While giving the brush its first conditioning wash prior to the first use, it was very reassuring to see that not a single hair came loose when the brush was soaking. I understand that cheaper brushes come with a warning that the odd hair may shift when you give it an initial wash but with the Kent brush, not a single one came out. The washing water was a little cloudy from what I assume were manufacturing residues but after rinsing, a little glycerin in water and a short soak were all that were needed to leave the brush feeling luxuriously soft and ready to get to work.

I have every confidence that this brush will be with me for many years to come.

Tips on caring for your shaving brush

  • Use warm water! Hot or boiling water can cause damage, ultimately resulting in shedding. Hot, in brush terms, is usually considered to be anything above the 50 degree Celsius mark.

  • Go easy with your brush! The core of the brush is where the magic happens and mashing down with your brush can twist and break the core hairs and over time cause hair loss and a dimpled effect in the centre of the brush.

  • Rinse and dry after use. When you are done using your brush shake or flip it hard a few times to remove all the water and hang upside down in a stand to dry. If you don’t have a stand dry the brush thoroughly on a towel.

Why is my brush shedding?

  • Intermittent shedding is quite normal across all makes of brush. Please read our magazine article that explains the issue, its causes and how you can prevent it happening: Why is my shaving brush shedding hair?!!
