Shaving Shack products earn rave reviews
A number of shaving products available at The Shaving Shack have made it into a leading feature on the Shaving101.com blog.
Popular US shaving blogger Mike Sandoval recently published an article titled ‘My Favourite Shaving Products’.
And first prize in the shaving soap category went to DR Harris Marlborough.
”Traditional, triple-milled hard soaps provide me the richest and most protective lather for my shaves,” said Mike.
”Of the assortment that I use regularly, DR Harris is significantly better in both performance and fragrance over others, including Trumper and Truefitt & Hill.
”Lathering up for a shave with this soap fills my bathroom with the noticeable aroma of fresh cedar and sandalwood. The shave with Marlborough is always great and I never grow tired of the scent.”
DR Harris Marlborough shaving soap (100g) is priced at just £8.95 at The Shaving Shack.
The soap is also available with an attractive wooden bowl that allows for easy storage when not in use and also looks very classy on my bathroom counter.
Mike also praised Mitchell’s Wool Fat shaving soap, describing it as a great shaving soap because of its lanolin and moisturizing properties. This soap is priced at £5.49 on our website.
The Bluebeards Revenge took second place in the shaving cream category. ”This cream easily whips into an amazing lather that is bubble-free, thick, and protective,” he said.
“The rich lather is perfect for both double-edge and straight razor shaving. It also has a traditional barbershop-style fragrance that is very enjoyable during the shave.”

Grow a Mo this Movember
Men’s health is certainly something that has been in the news more and more over the past few years. And in a bid to raise awareness even further, and get people involved with something fun at the same time, gentlemen across the UK have been challenged to grow a moustache in aid of Movember.
This idea was the brainchild of a few guys in Australia back in 2003 to do something positive in the name of men’s health and to bring back the long-forgotten moustache. The plan seems to have worked as now, seven years on it is going from strength to strength with more and more people across the world getting on board every year in raising money for prostate cancer charities.
The premise is quite simple: grow a Mo (slang for moustache) together with a group of guys every November and raise money for cancers that are affecting men.
There is still time to join in with this excellent way of changing the approach to men’s health by changing your appearance. You just need to begin the 1st of November clean-shaven and use the rest of the month to grow a Mo, all in aid of charity. After all, as the Foundation’s slogan reads: “Every man deserves a little bit of luxury.”
Movember is a commitment that you can get your mates (or Mo Bros) to join in with too over the 30 days, so you won’t be alone in bringing the tache back into fashion. After this time you can go back to your usual immaculate wet shaving routine if you like, resting in the knowledge you have done your bit for the promotion of men’s health issues and had a laugh at the same time.
Bedford Blues rugby star Sacha Harding, the face of leading shaving brand The Bluebeards Revenge, is an official ambassador for Movember.
“It’s that time of year again where I grow a big thick hairy Mo to help raise awareness and funds to help fight prostate cancer,” said Sacha, officially Britain’s manliest man.
“My aim is to raise £10,000 this year and with the help of my team-mates and supporters at Bedford Blues and Bluebeards all over the world, I really think I can meet this target.”

How to maintain sideburns and facial hair
Even for men who enjoy wet shaving, there may still come a time when you wish to grow some facial hair to keep up with a certain hairstyle and look. This type of facial hair can be used to frame the face and it can be achieved by thinking about what you want before you get round to shaving.
Many men prefer to grow sideburns of varying lengths whether they decide to grow a full beard or not. When guys who usually maintain a clean shaven appearance wish to keep their sideburns, there are a few things which are certainly worth bearing in mind in order to keep the facial hair soft and clean.
The following maintenance procedures should help you to cultivate great looking sideburns which will not upset your wet shaving routine.
Firstly, you should regularly use a face wash to ensure that the area surrounding the sideburns is always kept nice and clean. The facial hair can also be cleaned when you have a shower as massaging shampoo into the sideburns for a short while can soften the hair in preparation for trimming.
To trim your sideburns you need to prepare the razor as you would normally, by running it under a hot tap for a few minutes.
You can then start work on the areas to the side and immediately below the sideburns. At this point it is important to ensure the sideburns are the same length. This can be done through careful shaving in front of a mirror.
When trimming your sideburns you need to hold the razor vertically and in a position adjacent to your face before moving in a downwards motion from top to bottom.
When you have finished the procedure you should use a moisturiser to protect your skin and keep you looking healthy.
When it comes to men’s grooming there are all sorts of shapes and sizes of sideburns you could adapt to your facial shape to get the right look for you. By maintaining your sideburns regularly you can start to make it part of your wet shaving routine.

Feather All Stainless AS-D1
Leading US wet shaving expert Mike Sandoval descried the new Feather All Stainless safety razor as “probably the most beautifully crafted razor” he has ever seen.
He said: “These are among the highest quality and quite possibly the sharpest instruments that any shaver will ever encounter. Feather’s newest razor breaks the mold of traditional double edge safety razors and raises the bar for design, cutting angle, packaging, and — of course — price.”
The Bluebeards Revenge Luxury Shaving Cream
Mike, who runs leading shaving blog Shaving101.com, concluded: “This razor along with the PILS are connoisseur razors for someone who wants the best of the best in his collection. These new razors take the good ol’ utilitarian safety razor and make it a luxury item — with a price tag to match. The fact that Feather produced a razor with this quality is a strong indicator that the popularity of double edge shaving has been noticed as worthy of an investment.”

Stop bleeding from shaving cuts with an alum block!
We’ve all cut ourselves shaving at some point but how many of us know about the wound constricting properties of the alum block, the original antiseptic aftershave?
This little, crystal-like stone serves to contract the tissue surrounding the wound that stems the blood flow, helping to soothe irritation and close up nicks or cuts.
Good quality alum blocks also have antiseptic properties that not only cool and refresh the skin after shaving, but also act as a balm. Simply wet the block, apply to face, and then dry with towel.
A worthy alternative to the alum block is the styptic pencil, which is specifically designed for individual cuts and nicks.
The styptic pencil is made from the alum block crystal, but then its powdered form is concentrated into a stick.
Tom Trueman, the face of British shaving company the Shaving Shack, believes using an alum block is an essential part of a quality shave.
He said: “Finish your shave in style with an alum block. Made from the finest ingredients, our alum blocks have antiseptic and astringent properties to help close pores, reduce razor burn and prevent minor bleeds.”
And according to Tom, storing an alum block is relatively straightforward. “After use clean the alum block thoroughly with water, dry it and store in a dry box,” he explains.
“However, if you allow the alum block to remain moist or exposed to moisture it will simply dissolve, so take care.”
Tom also warns that people who have dry or sensitive skin should not use a block, as the minerals used are astringent, meaning they will draw moisture out of the skin.
He also stresses that an alum block should never be used before a shave, only after.
Clean-shaven men have better job prospects, study shows
I read a very interesting article today on SeeJackShop.com that says that well-groomed guys have much better job prospects.
The article cites a survey where 90 per cent of HR professionals said being well groomed is more important than a firm handshake when it comes time for a job interview.
Going for an job interview? Make sure you look smart and professional
“How you look has a direct impact on how you feel, your confidence and self-esteem,” said Mark Jeffries, business consultant, communications expert and author.
“This is as true for guys actively seeking a job as it is for those who are currently employed and seek a competitive advantage. At the same time, seemingly small details, like a clean shave or a great-fitting - but not necessarily expensive suit- send important visual cues to others about your professionalism and confidence.”
That survey, conducted for Milford-based razor maker Schick by US market research company StrategyOne, found that men who shave at least five times a week are having sex 15.5 times per month, compared to 7.8 times for unshaven men.
So men, get out your razors and quick as it would appear that keeping yourself clean-shaven is the key to a successful career and love life.

Sacha Harding named manliest man in Great Britain
Our friends over at The Bluebeards Revenge have this morning reported that Bedford Blues flanker Sacha Harding has been crowned Britain’s manliest man.
The rugby star polled more than 140,000 votes to win a nationwide competition and a one-year modelling contract to become the new face of the luxury and beard reducing shaving cream.
In August, The Bluebeards Revenge carried out a survey to find what famous people’s features were judged most manly before launching an appeal with the Daily Express newspaper to find men who matched the criteria.
The composite masculine man was a combination of George Clooney’s hair, Scottish actor Gerard Butler’s eyes, Hollywood star Brad Pitt’s nose, British actor Jason Statham’s mouth and James Bond-actor Daniel Craig’s body. We dubbed this man ‘Bradiel Buthney’.
Hundreds applied but, after much deliberation, eight ruggedly handsome suitors were shortlisted in Britain’s biggest masculinity manhunt. And it was Sacha who came out on top of this masculine pile.
Chris Brain, Paul Hunter, Elliot Stevens, Ken Townsend, Oliver Gwyn-Jones, Simon Thorne and Craig Stevenson were the other seven finalists.
Tom Truman, spokesperson for The Bluebeards Revenge, said: “The Bluebeards Revenge is the most masculine shaving cream on the market for men with heavy stubble, and so we set out to find the British man out there who was separated at birth with the world’s most manly fantasy man, ‘Bradiel Buthney’.
“These eight rugged chaps were all worthy winners, but it was Sacha who secured the most public votes.
“We would like to thank all eight guys for their enthusiasm, hard work, commitment and manliness. They have all been a pleasure to work with and will always be considered part of the Bluebeards family.”
The 27-year-old will now take part in photoshoots and TV ads; he will also shave in a host of extreme masculine locations, including a lion’s den and while skydiving (surely enough to put any normal man off entering in the first place :).

“The first step is to get the right kit and a decent shaving brush is essential. Now shaving brushes can cost anything from a few pounds to literally hundreds for pure badger bristle varieties.
“However, the Doubloon is a perfectly good quality shaving brush at a budget price. This wooden bristle brush comes with attractive gold lettering and The Bluebeards Revenge’s trademark skull and crossbones in gold.”
