The exotic look is completed with decorative Urdu text. The shavette is a close relative to the straight razor with the difference being that the blades can be changed, just like a safety razor. This means you don't have to worry about stropping and sharpening yet enjoy the closeness of a straight razor shave! Note: This will take standard double edged razor blades. Had my first shave with this beauty today and I have to say if you have a very steady hand and give this beauty the respect it deserves,it can provide a fantastic shave,and remember no stroping required! Author: Ivan Cousins I decided to dip my toe into the world of straights and this is an inexpensive way to try it.When i got the razor i decided to put half a derby blade in it because derbys are more forgiving, but the shave was a bit rough so i tried a feather and had quite a satisfying shave.I think it will take a bit of practice to really master the art of straight shaving but there is something very fulfilling about using a straight to shave and you definately have a lot more control when it comes to shaping sideburns and other facial hair.Give it a try before going all out for an expensive straight setup. Author: Alex Bramhill After my cheap ebay shavette broke, I decided to get a better made one. I am not disappointed, the weighting is wonderful and due to the all metal blade holder, unlike those with plastic tang, means that there is no movement amplified from jogs of the hand. Also, the pivot joint is just right, it is not swinging loose, yet it does not lead to a hurting pinky (while still providing a great grip). The blade holding mechanism took two attempts fire time to get the blade parallel to the holder, but it holds it incredibly securely and a lot firmer than others I have tried before. Overall, this is a worthwhile investment and will hopefully be used in years to come. Author: Steven Bright Having enjoyed many a barber shop shave with a traditional straight i figured why not try it myself at home and enter the world of manly shaving. I decided the shavette was the way to go due to the cost and stropping etc required of a straight. Unfortunatly, this is not for me. With sensetive skin and a bum chin, i can't see how it is physically possible to shave without slicing myself! Obviously the problem is with my technique and i struggled to control the lightweight blade. I have since switched to a heavyweight double edge and find this far better for control. Maybe i shall try again in the future, but i'll leave the straights to a barber treat once in a while and continue with the DE. On the plus side, it is an extremly cheap way to experiment with the blades etc being inter-changable regardless of shaving system, and experimentation will always be required to find the right combination for your face.
